The trails were fairly wet today. The rocks were greasy. The stream crossings were not too difficult.
There were no blowdowns or other obstacles on the trails. There is one widow maker perched precariously over the trail, it can be passed under without ducking.
Lower down there are a few muddy sections that are fairly easily bypassed. There are a few spots where there is some water running on the trail but nothing significant.
When we arrived at the summit this morning we were in and out of the clouds. Later, as we headed down, the clouds seemed to have lifted and there was a bit of sun showing.
We paid a quick visit to the Garfield tent site to see the new shelter which is almost completed. It is absolutely magnificent. The workers are very rightly proud of their work. I can assure you it's worth a look.
We passed five other hikers and one worker on the trails today.
I should add that the Forest Service has done a great job on the road and the new bridges coming in from Five Corners.
Here is a link to a few photos taken today. http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?p=356941#post356941
10 miles 2900' elevation gain
Add 1/2 mile and 300' for a visit to the new shelter
