  • Whitewall was great! Really awesome. You and Pat are amazing -- we are so inspired by you both!
Hi. Thanks for the green spot. As you may know, the summit signs have been taken down from South and Middle Carter. I met some folks out there who weren't sure if they had found Middle Carter. They hadn't. There are Cairns on the two peaks. They aren't big but they're there. There are a number of knobs up there, but if nothing has changed since last Friday, if the cairn isn't there, you're not there. If you do the loop, it really doesn't matter because you're going to go over it. One other thing. That was my fourth trip over the Carters and the first time that I noticed a small heard trail on South Carter right at the cairn that leads to a slightly higher spot. For the absolute purists I guess this would be a requirement.
Still fighting off the "grim reaper"! Thanks for the greenie!
    Happy hiking.
Audrey -- thank you for the nice feedback. If you do make it out to Canyonlands again, let me know; I have a few trail recommendations for you. Also, as mentioned, we went in December and had a great time (very nice weather; warm temperatures [60-70 degrees] by day and a dusting of snow at night). We had the park pretty much to ourselves.
Thanks for the kind words on that post, Audrey! That was indeed a great day in the Garden! :)
Audrey, thank you for the kind words, and for the green square! We had an outstanding day.
Thanks so much. I'm really looking forward to seeing that very special dog of yours. Hope it's soon.
    Audrey -
I have that Doan book and, as a coincidence, just re-read it last year. I closely identify with Doan who conctracted type 1 diabetes in late middle age as I did. The account of his and Sharps's Mahoosuc traverse is "one for the books." I'm sure you enjoyed it as much as I.
Sharps's entry on E. Hitch was on the back of some New Hampshire veternary disease report form. Made my day.

Hi PAt & Audrey! Thanks for the birthday greeting. A couple of us were up on East Hitchcock today and saw your names in the register. A real Who's Who of 3k Hall of Famers left their marks on those pages... I was thrilled to see a 1981 (I think) scrawling from Claude Sharps, Dan Doan's pal.
Only N. Hitchcock of the Huntington-Hitchcock wad left to do now!
Thanks for the greenie Audrey! You two set such a beautiful example for those of us with much more "climbing" to do!;)
Thanks for the green spot, Audrey. I can't imagine missing a dog for 10 hours. You must have enormous patience and a huge heart to endure such a trial. But I'm so happy your dog found its way back to you.
Thanks Audrey....getting stronger by the minute. See you soon, maybe we can get Katie and Leo out in the Fells for a while
Audrey, thanks for the greenie. I hoped my wordy report wouldn't be too boring, especially compared to the two reports with pictures. That's why I thoughtfully plagiarized Chris' pics. ;~)
