    Anybody for a Trail Worker's Story?...anyone?.....

Thank you Red Oak, where would any of us be without the inspiration of someone in our lives? Best wishes to you! Excellent point Ellen, and those "little things" add up to a great deal, all because someone takes the time to care! Thanks! Thanks, but all credit for the photo layout goes to...

    Anybody for a Trail Worker's Story?...anyone?.....

As so many of you know, trail work is my passion. Each year I write an essay/story about trail work, sometimes for essay contests, but more often just as an appeal to let people know the task before us as trail workers. I guess a nice thrill is that in some cases they have been printed or posted...

Mt Washington Sat. 7/7/12, up Huntington Ravine/down Great Gulf

I agree, great shot of Spaulding. Good lord to see that place 20 years ago and the amount of abuse it took from bootleg campsites right on the Lake. It was almost impossible to brush them back in. Thanks to the re-route of the trail years ago, it certainly made a bit of a difference. Well...

    5 Days, 5 Pics

Thank you Unstrung Harp! Depending on where you are and your circumstances, miles don't have to be a hinderance. Its a 7-8 hour drive for us (depending on if we use or bypass the Tappan Zee, and whether we stay in Franconia, or I go all the way back home to Jefferson, or my family in Gorham) but...

    5 Days, 5 Pics

Hopefully, no one misses my usual sentimental, philosophical TR. Because this one is neither of the two. This was a week all about labor, grunting, sweat, scrapes, bruises, blazing, bars, blood, blisters (someone else's), and brushing. So here goes, a nontraditional TR for me. Five days, five...

Absitivelyunfreakinbelieveable! Way to go Sonic Boom! Take it easy on us unsuspecting trailworkers lurking on blind corners.

Counterclockwise Pemi Loop - a New PR, 6/16/2012

Mesmerizing TR Larisa! Klutzy Kat and I were at Cman tonight for dinner, and though nothing interrupts us when eating there, we were both transfixed in reading despite the fact our dinner had arrived. Since Klutzy Kat and I have resumed trail running again, what are Hokas, and is there some...

    Liberty/Flume - Friday, June 15

Welcome to VFTT, good to have you aboard, and nice TR. I saw you guys coming down LST, I was doing a Trail Work Patrol, I was the guy with the axe, hazel hoe, loppers, and pruning saw. Looked like you guys had a swell time!

    Osseo - lower half

Trailwork day on lower half. No blowdowns. There is water available for dogs about halfway to the start of switchbacks where waterbars are flowing nicely, 4 of them in a row. 8.5 hours of touching up blazes, brushing, and waterbar clearing, including installation of new one. No special equipment...

    AMC WFA Class for Volunteers

Many adopt-a-trail volunteers already know this from their Region Leaders, but it is also available to all AMC volunteers. On July 14&15 at Camp Dodge there will be a Wilderness First Aid class open to all volunteers. This is being done at a greatly reduced cost, and an optional CPR class may...

    Backpacking Checklist - feedback requested!

Depending on your storage conditions of your potable aqua tablets (avoid humidity and such) opened containers are good for up to a year, unopened up to 4. But I'm glad you brought it up because it made me go look at mine. Of course, another option is the steripen series which we are looking into.

    Backpacking Checklist - feedback requested!

I will never encourage the water filter vs portable aqua debate, but perhaps listing the tablet or chemical form of water purification as optional would be nice. This is a nice endeavor you are doing, it was a good read.

    30 Years and Counting......

Exactly erugs, the odds are slim you have to use it, but I can't imagine the feelings of helplessness if someone found themselves there not able to do anything and be powerless to help. Those are the thoughts that make me shudder. And, let's face it, with more people on the trails of varying...

    30 Years and Counting......

Thank you Kevin and erugs! I hope no one minds if I give this a little "bump", which in a twist of irony, makes a point. My employment requires that I do not use my phone for personal calls during service hours. I explained to my boss that since all my family is still home in NH, sometimes...

    3,000 Miles and 1,000,000 feet - It's A Good Start, 6/30/2007 to 5/12/2012

and I consider it to be a pleasure that the first person I bumped into from the Forums after joining VFTT (besides you Kevin, that's a given) was Earl and Sue one summer on the Tripyramids. A humid, stuffy sort of day, with a T-storm rolling around. they had just come up the Slide route. Happy...
