I grew up hiking, picnicking, and camping in PA State Parks that were essentially created by the CCC, such as Colton Point State Park seen in this photo. I used to know a few old timers who were in the CCC. Great stories.

It had been nearly four years since Fran and I first climbed Gothics and we were itching to get back up there. We decided to make it a little more interesting and access it via the Scenic Trail to Sawteeth, then climb up and over Pyramid, and finally arrive at Gothics...thus we have the Spygot...

Planning a mid-late September trip to Franconia Notch area and looking for lodging recommendations. Don't want to spend a fortune, but not looking for bunk-room accommodations either. Nice clean motels and/or cottages are more our thing. We'll be hiking a lot so breakfast is usually of no use...

That's a fun little climb. Would be a shame to see it shut down.

Jay, is the trail legally open? We're going to be in the vicinity the last week of June, and were hoping to climb it...but would prefer not to climb a ski trail or service roads.

We hiked it in September, and I remember the heading down the L. Brook h-path between Carson and Macomb part of the path was a little bit of a stream. Don't remember how far down you had to go, but I'm thinking you wouldn't want to count on it.

Thanks, Joe. This sounds like a smart approach for us as we plan to tackle the any season 48/67, even though we have no desire to do it in a single season. We do have an additional ~200 miles one-way (on top of your 150-200) "commute" to the whites, so this kind of strategy would likely make...
