When I'm starting in on a new activity, I like to get good gear, though usually not top of the line. Other than that, with gear and most things that require me to pry open my wallet, I tend to observe the following: "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!"

I don't know if they still do this, but if you ever have a chance to see winter fireworks on Mirror Lake, don't miss it. It's spectacular with the colors reflecting off the snow and the explosive noise echoing off the mountains!

HMMM...they failed to mention that price increase in the recent membership renewal request. They probably got tired of having to make change in the store.

It really wasn't bad coming down from Lake Arnold to Uphill Brook. Very nice, in fact. The mud pit was from Uphill LT to Lake Colden...but the hike along the lakes and though avalanche pass made it worth it!

We had heard that too, but when we went in September it was great...and a beautiful hike! We went in via lake Arnold, out via Avalanche (see avatar). It had been rain free for a week or so, and I could imagine that earlier in the summer when it was raining all the time it would pretty wet.

I thought the same thing, Tim. For once in my life I read the instructions...and it doesn't help! :confused: I just got my shoes recently and have worn them maybe 5 times. Tried them each way and doesn't really seem to be a differnce for me.

Very disturbing, although I guess not hugely surprising. I just don't get our state's inability to effectively manage resources...even though the price of admission to our parks continues to rise. I'll bet there's no plan to decrease the cost of the Empire Passport, even though it will have...
