ADK Heart Lake Proposal - Pro or Con?

Skiguy, I understand those concerns, and I think the HPI and and the old and new Loj's have served admirably...... but then I wonder "What will the next 100 years bring" and I think that the long term visions are what we really need to be prepared for. I also wouldn't mind turning the current...

ADK Heart Lake Proposal - Pro or Con?

Going back to 95-2001, I sat on the BOD under both Chuck and Terry. I was for the HLMP then, but I had concerns in several areas. I don't think anyone can disagree entirely that the Loj is outdated and needs quite a bit of work to bring it up to expectations for the cost to the consumer. I...

    purchasing VFTT bumper sticker?

I'd be glad to help out wherever I can. I can front seed money to get the batch of stickers/patches made, much in the same manner as as when we did the patches a few years back.

    New GPS models from Garmin

I like the wireless (IR?) function. If it would work wireless with your PC and get email and phone calls, then I would be all set!!!! :)

    Tunnel tents in winter?

I call them Hoop tents. I used to have a Kelty Windfoil 2 and then sold it to buy a Windfoil 3. I had the WF2 for about 5 years and used it in the winter for about 15 trips. I have only used the WF3 on 4 occasions. I really like these tents. Pitched correctly they are bombproof and spacious...

    XC Ski boot=Blisters...

I agree with BHSF, If you have tried all of this in the past, and you are getting huge blisters on both heels, it sounds like the boot fit is the problem. You will usually only get blisters due to moisture and friction. Moisture softens the skin and as the layers start to rub, the friction in...

    Atlas snowshoes

Had my new 1235's out over the weekend. they were sooo good that Sunday night I pulled my old Sherpa (Tucker Bindings) out to get them ready for sale on Ebay. The 1235' track nicely, are very light (2.3 lbs per shoe) and the televator heels works nicely. The bindings are very comfortable as well.

Do you like to snowshoe / wear snowshoes?

Break the trail for me!!! Make it hard and smooth like a blistering white concrete highway. I'l hang back and have another coffee and and then strap on my 4 or 12 points and check your trailbreaking progress later. :p P.S. Thanks!!!!!!!

    Snowshoe comparisons and failure analysis

I just ordered a pair of Atlas 1235's with the televator from EMS (On Sale from $269 to $215 plus free shipping). These will replace my 20 year old, but still very good shape Sherpa Tuckers. I was leaning toward the MRS lightening 30's, but after reading this and hearing issues others have had...

Will new memory card reset settings and routes in GPS Map 60CSx?

Wow Thanks. After I read your previous post I went in and starting looking around. Quite frankly, I simply didn't realize I could save them to another drive. I have a couple of spare 1 gig SSD cards lying around and I think I will save most major cities and national parks to them and label...

Will new memory card reset settings and routes in GPS Map 60CSx?

Yah!! I just loaded 2008 from that Amazon deal onto my Hard drive and then got rid of the old Topo Mapsource. I then proceeded to put 2025 segments into my 2G micro-disk on my 76CSx and no issues. Everything else remains, that was previously on the 76CSx. I only wish I could load all the map...

    MSR snowshoes

If the back strap is slipping off, Buy a length of 1/2 or 1/4 nylon strap and after you put your snowshoe on, Run the strap from the front of your ankle, just above the instep, through backstrap on one side, double back around the front of your ankle and run it around the other side of the...

    Reusing hand warmers

Paul, I have had a large Jon-e-Warmers for many years - They run on Zippo type lighter fluid. but I have hear folks use Kerosene with them. They aren't as easy to use as the "rip'em open" disposables, but they certainly have a place in my pack in the winter for daytripping. I think they are...

    Washing clothes....getting the funk out

People still post to RBC???? It's been a number of years since I visited the NG....I thought it would have died with the WWW. :) My poly usually starts to stink as soon as it warms up to body temp. I have been replacing it over the years and have been very pleased with Ex-Officio underwear...
