I had a great visit to this less famous Monadnock, and its fire tower, in northeastern Vermont on Sunday. Full trip report is here, pictures only are here. One word of caution: for those hiking with dogs or small kids, there is a great deal of broken glass under the fire tower. -vegematic

Thanks for the greenie! I get over to Evans Notch quite a lot as it's so nearby. Even so, I always seem to gravitate to the same trails. I've been trying to branch out a bit this summer.

Does anyone know if it is now on reservation/fee service or if it is still informal? Also, does anyone know whether the spring is reliable lately? I know the cabin information is on the site somewhere but my search skills seem to have failed me. -vegematic

Not much to add except to say that I made the crossing of the Wild River two days ago just above the Spider Bridge site and it isn't too bad. I made it across dry by boulder-hopping with poles. Anyone taller and/or more graceful than me (i.e. pretty much everybody) should have no problem...
