Old Speck and Saddleback-The Horn

A short TR for our first trip in Maine.

Left home early Saturday morning May 22, we arrive early enough for our first summit of Maine, Old Speck. A short hike with a loop and on the summit we had a 360 beautiful view at the top of a tower. I climb it alone, because Annie has vertigo. I have seen many beautiful places to explore and I could see the White Mountains and Mount Washington. Trail conditions was dry and almost no trace of snow.

Sunday morning May 23, we head towards our second destination of our journey, Saddleback, The Horn. I decided to make these two peaks by climbing the ski hill and ascend by ski slopes. We parked in a parking lot near the main building. The climb was very fast and the two peaks also. The weather was on our side and the ridge between those two mountain is superb.

Hmm, I thought all that stone and rebar work was CCC stuff back in the early-mid 1900s? I did old speck, I think 2 years ago and I remember all the nice stonework and the rebar on the Eyebrow... Of course, 2 years ago isn't all too long ago either.

No, you did Old Speck last July. (You may have done it earlier, too.)

Hey Teo, I have done Old Speck twice, one was during the First Bearly Live that I went too which was I think 2 years ago. I also did it last year with Zero-G and that's when I ran into you if I remember... So I have the Old Speck Grid going on..
