How about those super flexible snowshoes?

A bit pricey at the moment, but I like the ad's line about "you stride, you don't clomp." But i like the sound of snowshoes clomping! And it says "for tricky terrain" which is what we in NH's Whites are all about early in the season.

How about those super flexible snowshoes?

A benefit I see is on New Hampshire "bones" before the snow has filled in all of the holes. A friend bent the frame on his aluminum shoes by stepping with a rock on front and back and nothing in the middle. If the shoe he was wearing had been designed to flex, that would not have happened...

How about those super flexible snowshoes?

Spiny - those flexible snowshoes seem to offer a lot, including grip, easy binding and heel lift. Hmmmm. ?

How about those super flexible snowshoes?

And I was wondering if anyone had seen/tried these? I understand a pair was purchased at the Manchester EMS store this winter. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/371740524/snowxu-foldable-snowshoes

    Trail respect

No one started a yellow snow thread this winter. I think a committee was formed to do that only every other year.

    Trail respect

Isn't this example of an accident -- a broken leg -- enough to help people say, "I'm going with my snowshoes." Why purposefully make conditions worse? I think that raf-b might better understand the reason for "glares and silent opprobrium" (love that word!) after having more experience on the...

    Trail respect

Post holing in deep snow isn't much fun. I don't know why people do it. I don't like that they make the trails more difficult. I love the beauty of a beautiful snowshoe tread. Question: Do people kicking steps in to a steep slope annoy those who want to butt slide down? I know that butt slid...

    Snow shoe repair

I just repaired a pair of snowshoes and a single one that had rivets break out. I wasn't sure I could do it, because I couldn't get the holes to line up. Thinking I had nothing to lose, I took a pair of bar clamps and gently pulled the two sides towards each other. I was able to easily line up...

    Andrew Brook Trail

That adoption sounds complicated! We worked hard on Saturday to break out this lovely trail. I am willing to help you a bit with getting the trail ready, but have to pay most attention to the one I have adopted up north. Keep me informed on work dates you need extra hands.

Andrew Brook Trail, Mt. Sunapee - Saturday, 2/15/14

We were a NH Chapter AMC group of 7. The trail had not been broken out so it was a good experience for us to practice the technique of having the lead person take 50 steps, then stepping off to let the next in line take 50 steps and stepping off to go to the rear of the line. Sometimes it is...

Cost of hiking on Franconia Ridge - fail

I'll add that while I do try to speak truthfully, I will also chose to hold my tongue if my words are not necessary or would instigate more of a problem with another person. But if a rescuer is asking me when was the "last time" something went "in" or "out" I would not hold back on my answer...

    Joe English Hill Legal?

I have asked this question on the New Boston Facebook page and learned that the property is privately owned but hikers are not restricted in any way. Be careful at the summit, though, because the Air Force Tracking Station still has strict rules about being on land they own and haven't granted...

    Andrew Brook Trail

I answered my own question by reading the BlogSpot more thoroughly. It will happen this spring.

    Andrew Brook Trail

I noticed that the Andrew Brook Trail is being rerouted with a new trailhead and parking lot. Does anyone here know if that has opened yet (or when it will)? http://landstewards.blogspot.com/2013/10/andrew-brook-trail-project.html

    Joe English Hill Legal?

I used to access it from the old road across from the antique cape on Joe English Road, but wouldn't go that way now because of all the "new" houses in those woods. I've never heard of a problem going up from the Summit Drive access. Is there still a cul-de-sac for parking there?

Cost of hiking on Franconia Ridge - fail

I personally think honesty is always the best policy. Come what may, might be a good thing, not bad. When we start holding back, when do we stop, how do we remember how far off track we went?

CAUTION for people who hike with dogs

I had put off reading this thread, knowing that so many of us would be expressing our sorrow. The story was disturbing on many fronts, but I'm glad that I did read it, and I am going to share the advice I learned here with my son for his pal, Penny. Thank you.
