    Death March 2007 – Madison Gulf – 07/01/07

Well done, fellas, under very extraordinary conditions! Way to go, Bobby, with #28. And I'm with you re: Howker Ridge. That was only my second hike in the Whites, and I wish I hadn't been so tired _ or that the weather was so nasty _ because I heard the views were fantastic!

Chased By A Moose On Airline

I've done trail work on AirLine and that's one of the trails where I've frequently seen moose for some reason. Thankfully, I was never charged by one though! Well, done Ed and Duffy!

Mohonk Preserve, NY- a trip to the "GUNKS"

It had been about 10 years since I was last at the Gunks, and at that point in my life, I was into the rock climbing scene. I had forgotten how crazy a scene it can be, sort of like hanging out at an outdoor cafe in Paris: You hear all sorts of languages (German, French, some Italian, English...

The Kinsmans - Half plus one; a little blood, lots of sweat but no tears.

Nice pix, Bobby! Glad to see you overcame some of the, um, obstacles to your day _ from partying the night before to the water dump to forgetting your lunch. WTG!

probably a dumb question but ...

I have a slew of great lenses that I used with my Nikon SLRs. If I were to get a Nikon digital camera _ can those lenses be used with that? I don't remember what kind of mount they are but they were used with the N70 body.

    Banning Crocs

Crocs are popular among hikers, but I guess they're not thought of fondly in Sweden _ at least not in one Swedish hospital: ¶ STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) _ A Swedish hospital wants to ban its staff from wearing Crocs plastic clogs, saying they generate static electricity that can knock out...

Clouds and Lake of the Clouds...

Awesome shot! The 30 second exposure really helped make the clouds appear more misty. And I like that it's in B&W

Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!! (aka party time!)

Carmel and SherpK: well done organizing this very fun event! It was a blast to get the band together again for some jammin' _ but it was especially priceless seeing Darren's reaction as he hobbled up the driveway, lined with a gazillion cars. As always, it was great playing some music with...

    Best Places to butt slide

Marty: Are you talking about intentional or unintentional butt sliding??? I believe I've mastered both! ;) Among my faves: (sort of intentional to escape a thunder-and-lightning storm: Mt. Washington); definitely unintentional: Kinsman Pond Trail (actually, that might've been more...

7th Grader dies on Field Trip to Mt Washington

That is incredibly sad. I feel for her family and classmates. I'd be curious what happened, though from the sound of it, reading between the lines, it could have been some sort of pre-existing heart issue that had gone undetected.

Mt Ellen (VT) from the ski trails....

I took this route _ albeit in the summer. I ran into a ski area employee and asked him before venturing up, and he couldn't have been more friendly about it. At least in summer time, there was a service road that went pretty close to if not straight to the ridgeline, then just take a quick...

Pros and cons of convertible hiking pants

Carole: I have two pairs of convertibles and love them for their versatility. I would recommend getting the pair on which the zippers clearly mark which one is for the left leg versus right leg. I might be a zipper dyslexic but it just makes it easier to figure out quickly which leg goes to...
