I have a mob of 12 college friends who are doing it. I'll be there to spectate and laugh. Enjoy.

    Half Dome

Great photos and report. I has a great day once going up the Snake Dike and then down the cable side (early Spring, sans cables). I agree that it is definitely a "bucket list" hike. Congrats.

Philipp Stölzl’s "North Face" movie review

Holey Moley - what an amazing movie. I'm not sure if I breathed once the whole second half. I just watched it last night on my little computer screen and was riveted. Netflix. Absolute 5-stars and the best climbing movie I have ever seen.

    Trap Dike Solo?

I want to go up Trap Dike and tried last summer but it was VERY wet and I lost my nerve about 1/2 up the waterfall. Was that about the crux - or where is the crux? I'm thinking of going back with a rope and a handful of stoppers and giving myself a belay when needed. I get the sense that...

    Winter Bivy Thread

Admittedly, I don't believe that gear is the answer to anything. In general, I think attitude on a cold forced bivy is 10x more important than which bag weighs how many ounces, etc. So before I sound like a preachy oldtimer, let me say that I think you are on the right track; get out there...

Very nice. I have spent much time in that area (including Bodie) and am madly in love with all things along 395.

    Northern Taconic peaks?

Great post. I live on the flanks of the Scallop and have been developing a real appreciation for the northern end of the range. So, yes, I am in. Not sure the best way to compile and share? There are so many small trails everywhere but few worth writing about and some that are just too...

    Fatality on Grand Teton

Those western high alpine thunderstorms are fast and intense. I've dodged a couple - sometimes planning, sometimes luck.

    Alaska Mountain Wilderness Race

Thanks for the post. I raced three of the wilderness classic routes many years ago. It's amazing how strong those memories are seared into my brain. Following is a link which was posted on VFTT a year or so ago. An excellent video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pjpg2L-HbPA&feature=related

    What's fun in Amherst, ma?

I will be working in the Amherst area quite a bit the next few months - any suggestions for hikes, swimming holes, climbing areas, etc?

Highpoint: Louisiana. Driskill Mountain (535 ft). June 28, 2010

WOW! How ambitious. They start getting big and/or far apart west of Louisiana.
