    Crosby Mountain, Groton, NH

Correct -- the section between Bald Knob and and Crosby is not shown on the Acme Mapper topo map, although it's pretty clearly marked with cairns and blazes on the ground. You won't have a problem with it, TDawg. And yes, there is a memorial plaque on Crosby, from 1971, on the eastern edge of...

Highpoint: Utah. Kings Pk (13 528 ft). July 20, 2010

Thanks for posting these -- brings back some great memories of time spent hiking in Utah. Sigh...

    Crosby Mountain, Groton, NH

There are at least two access points, and neither requires a bushwhack to get to. One shows up on the map link you posted -- to the south of Crosby, along Wise Brook. This one was maintained by the folks at Camp Mowglis for a while and you can still see the little Mowglis wolf silhouette signs...

    Moose on Mt. Washington

These are excellent -- those wacky, cavorting moose calves cracked me up.

    White Nose Syndrome in Bats

    Damn that freakin' fungus...!

Thanks for sharing this. I love hiking in Utah but haven't been able to get out for a couple of years. That being said, please post the pictures!

    The MOOSE 8/28/10??

Perhaps Funky Freddy will serenade you on the summit? That could be worth hiking up there to witness.

    6-13 Plymouth Mtn/Brock Hill

The peaks south of Cardigan -- on the left in your picture, in the background -- are (from L to R): Brown, Church, Crane, and Orange (Mount Gilman) Mountains. Moving to the right some more is the low bump of the South Peak of Cardigan, followed by the bald dome of Cardigan Mountain, Firescrew...

What kind of bug is this?

It is a female giant ichneumon wasp, laying eggs in beetle larvae in the wood of the tree trunk. Specifically, it is megarhyssa atrata. Nice picture!

    Avery Peak 115th

Lovely, lovely... ...lovely pictures, and nice trip report. I enjoyed the experience, vicariously... Thank you! P.S. -- I agree with your statement: "As I often say, to us the lists are only a pretext. ....we love...to discover new places. Now that we have completed the 115 list, is not the...

Nice -- I think I'll need to check this out!

    South/Middle Carter Hiking Direction

Correct -- it takes just a few minutes to walk between the trailhead for 19-Mile Brook and Camp Dodge.
  17. Barkingcat

    South/Middle Carter Hiking Direction

Exactly. Park at the 19-Mile Brook Trail lot, and walk north on NH 16. It will take all of ten minutes to get to the road to Camp Dodge. From there, it's easy to find the logging road that intersects with the southern branch of the Imp Trail and then on up to the North Carter Trail to the...

    Hikes near New London, N.H.?

Excellent suggestion -- this route fits AOC-1's requirements pretty neatly. Andrew Brook Trail to Lake Solitude Trail to Sunapee summit is 6.0 miles RT, with 1,650 feet elevation gain. And the trailhead (on Mountain Road, off of NH 103 in Newbury) is a 10-mile/20-minute drive from the center...

A homage to the Northern Presidentials, June 26

Nicely done; 2:00 am on that trail is a great time to get started, and could put you near the summit just before 5:00 am sunrise. I like that trail, when (with clear skies), you can see on your left the silhouettes of the Howks and then Madison against pre-dawn light. And you know that you're...
