We were up in this area yesterday, and met a couple of locals who said that Carter Notch Road would be plowed this winter up to the start of the Hall's Ledge Trail -- which is about 0.2 miles past the trailhead for the Bog Brook Trail, a way of connecting with the southern end of the Wildcat...

The Bog Brook Trail had the same conditions yesterday with the same sort of "interesting" water crossings, on the way to Perkins Notch.

Oh, I just thought that you like the Rainbow Trail and because it was up for adoption, you might take it. Went by it yesterday on the way to Perkins Notch and No Ketchum Pond; lovely country out there!

In spite of the wet snow in some areas, some higher elevations have plenty of lovely powder -- great for snowshoes.

It looks like the same film -- but the television version was just under an hour, and the film schedule for this one shows it to be an hour and a half. Probably the same film with some time allocated to guest speakers, etc. Hmmmm...

Yes -- the Mowglis trail here heads east to an old fire road that runs south, along Wise Brook. You can take this trail/fire road all the way to Braley Road in Hebron. With a car spot, this can be a nice trek -- up to Bald Knob from the SPNHF parking area, over to Crosby, and then down via the...

Those OS (Ordnance Survey) maps pack in a lot of detail, do they not? They show everything -- almost every rock, tree, and puddle.

Great trip report. Bummer about not making it down the Syncline Trail -- that's a great hike with nice varied terrain. Still love the Needles section of Canyonlands (40 miles south of where you were) beyond all others, though; Horseshoe Canyon and the petroglyphs come in second.

According to a relative of mine, the book has been on pretty much every "new arrivals" list in public libraries across the country -- it's definitely out there in places beyond this area.
