Peak Bragging 2016! The Year in Review - Tell us your stories!

I (we) had my most productive year yet in NH, climbing 31 4000's with just over 200 trail miles. Tucker finished his 48 on Wildcat in August. He has now climbed 71 4000's, 18 in winter. Not bad for a 3yr old! Not coincidently, I finished my 3rd full round on Wildcat as well. It was also my first...

Anyone know what's up with the online map? It's been dead/barely alive all week. Sent them an email but no response.

    Non-Summit Sunrise Hike Suggestions

There's a beautiful meadow up on the side of Bemis with a easterlyish view. However, I am not sure you would want to follow the old Bemis trail by headlamp due to the multiple blow downs. Although other than this the trail was easy to follow to this point. When I was there a few years ago, I...

Does Sprint provide coverage in the Whites?

I have Sprint. I do not really pay much attention to service when actually hiking, my phone stays in the pack. But I do have adequate service in the car in most places I have wanted it or bothered to check, with the one exception I recall being the Kanc from the hairpin until somewhere around...

    Owl's Head Bushwhacks - Summer

Ahh, that makes sense. And that is the place it originates (or ends) at. Thanks for that!

    Owl's Head Bushwhacks - Summer

I used the Fisherman's on Saturday, and took the trails back. It was easy to follow at both ends, with some intermittent searching in the middle where it crosses a few tributary's, onto some small islands, but nothing too bad. Just keep the main stream on your right. Where it rejoins the Lincoln...

Mt Jefferson Saturday 4/16. Up Castle Trail, down Israel Ridge

What time were you on the summit? We had it to ourselves around 10:30, and then hung out in Endmand's for a while on the way back down. I only saw two others above tree line the entire trip, and then a bunch on Lowe's on my way down heading for Gray Knob. I heard there was a large group near...

    Jefferson Via Edmands

Has anyone been this way recently? Not finding anything on the interwebs. Wondering about the snowfield in particular, and if it even exists this year. And/or is it a sheet of boilerplate. Thanks!

    Your NE67 Finish

I finished the 67 and 100 on Fort in June 2005. We spent the first night at Roaring Brook and looped both Katahdin peaks on day one, including a slick trip over the knife edge. The second night we stayed at Kidney Pond, and then looped Coe (up the slide), the Brothers and finished on Fort and...

    Beaver Brook Trail

That would be me (and my Aussie Tucker). He missed the turn, I had my head down and also missed the turn but realized it right away. I decided to go ahead and check it out as the trail was pretty obvious. Thought there might be another good view into the ravine or a reconnect to the trail, but...

    Dog Grooming Questions

Looks like there are plenty of Aussie trail dogs out there, which surprises me as I rarely see them on the trail. Maybe we should start an Aussie trail dog thread? As to the original question, I have Tucker groomed in the spring along with a nail trimming, but only lightly and in certain rear...

Backpacking the Quehanna Wild Area (PA)

This is awesome jmitch! We have a camp around a mile from the Bucktail Overlook, just down the dirt road along that ridge (Mason Hill). I think I have about 1000 pictures from that overlook area. (Note avatar photo!) While I have always wanted to hike the entire Quehanna Trail in one trip (75...

Starr King Trail: Are There Cliffs Affording Good Southward Views Near Trail?

There may be one up the path behind my dog. It looked bright and promising up there. I did not follow it as I was heading to the Weeks and didn't want to take the time.

    Garmin Repair / Customer Service

This is strange to hear. I accidently deleted the crappy base map in my old eTrex a few years ago. When I called Garmin, they said send it in and never asked for a fee. They replaced the map and sent it back with a note saying they also replaced the worn out rubber cover over the click stick at...

New Hampshire Events that you may want to plan around 7/18 &19th

jniehof, If you are heading to Lincoln from Dover I would avoid both of those areas. Take Rt 4 to 93, or 16 and across the Kanc.....IMO.

Poop in the campsite: a tragedy in four acts

Same thing only different. Went to stash my overnight pack behind "the log" next to the LW trail, directly across from the Owls Head Path and nearly set it in a big ole "pile", TP and all. Others had just left their packs in front of the log, and then I saw why. And last April on Valley Way...

Pop up as a base camp for family hiking?

We had a baby girl in February and went this way. It has worked out great. A pop up would be nice in the sense that you could leave it at camp and the girls could hang if they were not up for a hike.

Tenting and/or Hammocking off Twinway (between South Twin and Guyot)

There are a few large well used sites in this area, on both sides of the trail. However they are well known to AT hikers, the ones I spoke to found out at the hut. Unsure of the legality though.
