    Yosemite!

Its not a loop but how about from Tuolomnne Meadows to Reds Meadow. You can stay a night below Donohue Pass ( a location I highly recommend), a night around Garnet Lake, and one at the Meadows or in the backcountry and then take a bus from Reds Meadow to Mammoth and then the Yarts from Mammoth...

    Sherburne Pass Trail Conditions?

Hey all, a window of opportunity may have just opened for me on Sunday and I was thinking Killington VT. If the snow and ice have melted, I'll avoid the area due to "mudseason". My long trail guide specifically references this area. If still a snow and ice base, I may hit it. So, does...

    Early April Jefferson day hikes?

A few years ago Sapblatt and I were doing a Presi Traverse (attempting anyhow) on June 10 and this snowfield was still going strong. Upon cominig up to it there was a guy with a shovel making a path since he heard about a couple of people who were hurt after sliding down this spot. Not hurt too...

    Saddleback and the Horn 3/28/09

Summarizing my winter hiking- 0 peaks of any kind, 1 11 mile flatland hike in the Pemi with Sapblatt. A series of negative events turned the winter into a no hiking, no working out mess. All things apparently working out now, Rols (Paul) and I targeted 3/28 for a hike and we wanted to add to...

Great Gulf Trail in Early May

Thanks both of you. We'll see how the weather plays out; I wasn't sure if ice and the steep trail made it a rough go up the headwall.

Great Gulf Trail in Early May

I searched but didn't find any trail reports on the Great Gulf Trail in early May so I'll ask here- has anybody been up the GG Headwall in early May and if so, please share the conditions. I realize the variability from year to year but wondering the safety level of heading up that way at that...

    Initiating a rescue?

My initial reaction is that most of my hikes in such a way that I would not be expected home until late. I doubt my wife would go to sleep however, with me not being home yet and not calling in no matter what time in the day I was expected home. No way. My other reaction is that she would...

    glissading the Ammy

We glissaded/butt slid/scooted this once and it was fast and exciting. There was a lot of unconsolidated snow and standing was tough. The snow did help from the speed getting too far out of control. Have fun, be careful. And have a great hike.

New toll on I-93 south at Mass border

Is there a regular commuter to MA that uses this as a regular route? I have taken it 1/2 dozen times in the last year, and zipped through at 65 mph going south all times (around 645 am). Perhaps the southbound traffic gets worse later in the morning? Me being lucky never sounds like an...

    Gorillapod = Amazing

I haven't used it enough for it to stop working properly yet but for use on uneven surfaces (re- slanted rocks) and attaching to tree limbs etc it is fantastic. Opens up the type of shots you can get of yourself while alone on a hike.

    Live Freeze and Die

Very cool pix. Agree the one with the cherries is excellent. Power came back last night after 10 days. Lets not discuss the flooding and the heating system distruction- still can't live at home. Anyway, some pix of my neighborhood and around my house. Note that this was a day or so...
