An insulated biking water bottle may keep the water from freezing for a period because of the insulated base but the drinking "mouthpiece" is fully exposed and will likely ice right up making it pretty useless.

If there's still a loop where the pull tab used to go find a small key chain loop. You can then attach something larger to the loop to get a grip with gloves.

I've had twist lock EMS Komperdells for years. Love 'em. Bent one using it for a prybar but after a repair they're still just fine...
