Dawn + Matt finish Catskill Winter 35's on Westkill

Thank you so much to all of those who joined us. It was a great day! And thanks for the congrats from those who couldn't join us. It was a lot of fun and definitely a social hike at a slow pace. Getting our winter patches at the top was a nice surprise! Of course, Dave reminded us we still...

    Balsam>Haynes>Eagle>Big Indian>Fir

We parked at Burnham Hollow, whacked up Fir, over to Big Indian and then to the trail. Then we hiked the trail to Eagle and whacked directly down from the summit of Eagle to McKinley Hollow where Matt was parked. This was a great hike and avoided the stream crossings and some extra miles...

    West Kill 2/11/06

If some people would like to meet at the Kingston Park and Ride, we could carpool from there. We will have to find a place for an after hike brew of course.

    Fir, Big Indian and Eagle

It was a great hike indeed! You are right Matt that it was a great day for bushwhacking. I had a lot of fun. Of course, there wasn't much snow. It was great hiking with you Terri! And nice to see you again Rik. The trail between Big Indian and Eagle could use some work. I'm not sure if...

Winter Peakbag and backpack Trip in the Catskills Jan 6th-8th

Sherrill and ND are nice to do as a thru hike if you have someone else with you to spot cars. You can come in from the Forest Preserve parking area on Rt. 42, up over Sherrill, then ND, and then out at the hairpin turn "swampy" area in Mink Hollow that Matt and Jay mentioned. You gotta love a...

New Years Eve - Zealand Hut!

So, back to the original topic (although I must admit a good laugh out of these posts!). I might be interested in doing this too. It sounds like fun.

Oh, Papa Bear, I just saw this so you can ignore my question on the thread about your finish. Thanks for letting us know.

    Lasik (lasic) surgery and hiking?

I had the surgery almost 4 years ago (wow, I can't believe it). I have been very happy with it. I had planned to hike the next weekend, but it was a thick bushwhack so my eye dr. talked me out of it. I was lucky that he was a hiker and understood. Trail hiking was no problem though.

    PapaBear completes 4 lists!

Hey Papa Bear...congratulations!! I too have made use of your trip reports and am very grateful. It's funny that you had nice weather as we had light rain most of our hike on Goose Eye on the same day. Was there any problem in getting into the trail head? I had heard there was work being...

    Lost Hiker?

I can't believe I was so close to her. It is kind of eerie. When we were coming down the trail we met her 2 brother-in-laws who were looking for her. It is very sad.

Thanks Mike, that's perfect! It is right down the road from where I will be staying. I'll plan to stop in.

Bushwhack from Carrigain Peak to Vose Spur?

Yeah, it was pretty cool when PB sent me an email with a picture of my entry for one of the peaks. It is fun looking through the pages and seeing entries for people you know.

    Sapblatt's 48th - 10/8 - Mount Jackson

Where is Mooseland? I plan to be doing another hike on Saturday, but may be able to drop in for the celebration.

Who's working on the Catskill 100 highest?

Wow, I can't believe you found it! It is actually Harry's patch. We figured in that maze of brush up there it was unlikely anyone would find it. We went to both peaks so we weren't quite sure where it came off.

    Setting a date - Whacky Weekend 2005

I will be in NH the weekend of 10/22-10/23 helping someone celebrate their 115 finish on Carrigain on the 22nd. I might be able to meet up for something on the 23rd. I can't do the other weekends, but could do something the first weekend in November.

    115'ers - VFTT rules!

She received her certificate at the awards ceremony, but was not on the list of finishers I received in the mail. Thanks, I find it hard to believe the numbers are still under 500!
