Whiteface, Passaconaway, and a Block of Ice - 7/24/05

A group of 5 of us (Harryk, Jean, Nat, and Spongebob) went up the Blueberry Ridge trail and on over to East Sleeper yesterday. Jean went on to West Sleeper as well. Some of us went up to Whiteface just because it was so close. What a beautiful day it was! Perhaps we saw you. It was a...

Full Moon hike to Overlook - 7/21

It was indeed a spectacular show from Mother Nature. We had a beautiful sunset and an awesome moonrise! There were many newbies, as Rivet mentions, which made it fun to hear their enthusiasm and awe. I did have 2 sets of horns with me which came in handy for a couple of people to at least...

Great! There will be a yellow lab mix on the hike too so he'll have a friend.

In search of the Scar Ridge Holy Grail

Yes, it was a fun whack! Harry took us right to the cannister. You really have to get the right ridge and go up that bit of a knife edge and it's perfect. The dip in the stream at the end was nice too!

Double Bow wraps it up! - Mt. Carrigain, 7/4 -- #48!!

Congratulations! Carrigain seems to be a popular place to finish. I finished mine there 13 years and 2 months after my first (Garfield). I too did a lot of them over and over not really trying to finish a list. There are a lot of great peaks that aren't on a list that I want to get up there...

    Trip report from China

Jay...yes it is indeed Huangshan Mountain in the Anhui Province. You are right that clouds make it special too. It is known for its "Sea of Clouds". We had a group of 12 and some of the folks were not really hikers, so we took the cable car up too. However, some of us did a lot of hiking...

My First ADK High Peaks 7/3-4

You could probably do it but water would be tough in the remote spots. The wall is not restored all the way. It is about 5000 Km so it would be a long hike!

    Trip report from China

Hello all, I guess I haven't posted much lately since I have been in China. I am actually in the Tokyo airport killing time right now. I have had a wonderful experience here. I went to Yellow Mountain which is spectacular although rather touristy. The hiking was on "sidewalks" with lots of...

My First ADK High Peaks 7/3-4

Hey Matt, congratulations!! I'm really glad to hear you made it up there. I'm sure you're going to be spending a lot of time up there for awhile. You seem to have really made yourself familiar with the area. I guess that's not surprising the way you study the maps. So, with all that talk...

Have any of you ever experienced virgin forest in the Adks or in the Northeast?

I remember several years ago paddling on the Oswagatchie River in the Western Adirondacks where there there was a virgin stand of trees. I can't remember exactly where. You had to walk back in to see it though.

    Bearpen (34) and Kaaterskill (35) - 6/25/05

Congratulations!! The Catskills are great. I hope we'll see you at the 3500 Club dinner next year (usually in early April). When you do the last winter requirement and submit your tally sheet, you can receive your certificate at the dinner. Feel free to email me if you would like any...

Views and Brews 'Hike' - New York City - 6/26

I believe you're talking about Jeremy's Ale House. I use to love going there. They have since moved and the place just isn't the same. They also don't have as good of a beer selection as they used to.

VFTT and the 46er Induction Dinner

I'm glad everyone had a good time. I am sorry I had to miss being there to receive my certificate. Family obligations took me in another direction. Congratulations to everyone who received their certificate!

    Escape the Escarpment '05 report

I can't believe I did the whole thing....again! At least it was the other direction this time. We really lucked out on the weather. It's such a great trail when you can get the views as we did. Thanks everyone!
