Volunteer Pemi Bridge Work Site Clean Up Planning Thread

If the horses were used and and there was enough snow cover the beams could possibly be brought out full length to be reused for something else. Has there ever been any interest by anyone to reconstruct the bridge on private property as an attraction or eccentric memorabilia? Even if it was cut...

Volunteer Pemi Bridge Work Site Clean Up Planning Thread

If they are ten by ten timbers every three feet is roughly a 70lb pack load. Looks likes they separated the timber layers with cross pieces and its deceiving at the angle to see if the other tarps cover a separate skid or its all one running skid. Looks easy to saw up the way it is prepped but...

Volunteer Pemi Bridge Work Site Clean Up Planning Thread

Billy's point about horse or mule is a good one. A friend of mine was contacted about doing this with his team in the winter and it was not going to work out for him to do what they wanted safely with the team. This makes me wonder what they did in the meantime and what is left. As others stated...

Boston Farewell Event for Mats Roing

Yes there were a few photos from the send off. It was a great time Mats and I am glad you didn't pick us both up at the same time! All those high peak push ups have you in pretty awesome shape! Here are a few pics from that night, the swedish massage was already in the album and I have...

    Swimming in the White Mountains?

A couple that come to mind right away are Lincoln Brook by the boulder and the pool half way up Cascade Brook before you get to the Kinsman Pond Trail. Emerald Pool is also a nice dive from straight over the falls.;)

Ed, We look forward to meeting you two out there as well! Sorry I have not really kept up very well with the trip reports. Thor is up to his #20 on the...

    Spring Hike to Monroe for Thor's 4k #20 5-22-11

After catching up to Mats and others at Barnes Field Saturday night Thor and I borrowed my in-laws place in Milan while they were away. I figured this would have me poised to cross paths on the Presis with Mats Sunday. I had plans of hiking Monroe and when I found out he was changing to a south...

    White Mountain GRID Finish #16

Congratulations John & June! It was nice to stop up and see you at the parking lot. Easter breakfast interfered with being at the summit but couldn't keep me from being there at lunchtime!;) Here's a few more pics from the day: http://good-times.webshots.com/slideshow/580139257ZVBeFv

    Getting Isolated 4/17-4/18/11

Hi Sierra! He is a purebred Norwegian Elkhound. He's about 45 pounds and just over one year. They don't get much bigger than that so not to worry about giving up too much space in the tent. He is a great hiker and his wirey coat sheds off the snow well. No problems with icing between his pads...

Biggest D'oh "That Was Stupid" Moment

Ellen, I had a car-spot story too but that was someone else's moment! I got to hitchhike from the Highland Center to Pinkham that day.;)

Biggest D'oh "That Was Stupid" Moment

Too numerous to count but fortunately most of those were alone and the woods don't talk!;) One good one was after a long, or should I say very long, Carrigain spring hike on the monorail. When we got back to the parking lot on 302 I looked at Earl, who had car-pooled up and hiked with me, and...

    Getting Isolated 4/17-4/18/11

Not that I don’t like people and comradery, but sometimes it feels very special to have a mountain or piece of woods to yourself. When you come through some places on the trail as you dayhike its hard to resist a feeling that tells you “What a great place to pitch a tent and enjoy life”! The...

Recommendations for overnight near or around Galehead Hut

As long as your packing water and don't need to have the source nearby you could possibly get off trail 200ft to the south on the rise along the ridge between Garfield and the hut. Seems to me both of those rises had some nice views out into the Pemi. I prefer the big loop you mentioned...

Potentially dangerous criminal suspect in Bristol, NH Area

It does this one!;) Thanks Raven! Bristol is very close to my parents and I will be stopping in this weekend. Sometimes I pick up hitch-hikers and this is good to know about. And yes I like to know what he is armed with so specifying it is a benefit. If he gets up in the hills away from the...

    Mt Pemigewasset

Excellent pictures Yvon! I like how big the Franconia Ridge mountains look from that perspective. I have driven by and hiked out Georgiana Falls close by but never went there. On my list of nice places now, thanks for sharing!;)
