    An ounce of prevention...

If I were to give the benefit of the doubt to the individual in the car much stranger things happen in state park lots than sitting reading the paper for hours. There is as much possibility that he had walked earlier and was relaxing after. Two in the afternoon leaves plenty of time before...

Hale via Fire Warden's Trail, 1/19/2012

Any good estimates on the distance from Seven Dwarfs to the summit traveling that route? Thinking about a seven or eight mile loop hike at some point. Thanks!;)

    Marcy, Skylight, Gray and Colden-January 15, 2012

Very nice TR and photos Andy! Beautiful day! I have found that if I keep spare batteries in a thigh pocket so they are warm and swap them out once in a while it helps with the camera freezing up. I have also killed no less than 8 point and shoot cameras in less than that many years. Nothing more...

Rumors about Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal

A lot of what I see in the picture is not rot but what we called "shake" on the sawmill. This is sometimes wind shake while the tree is alive, it can also come from the felling of the tree. It is basically a delaminating of the annular rings and often specific to the heartwood and a bit further...

Mount Monadnock State Park ranger Jim Johnson

Very sad! I have always found the older rangers at the store and on Monadnock to be very helpful with information and history! There was a story further down that indicated it was possibly the same person that was shot during a burglary investigation later on.

    Appreciating gear on Fishin' Jimmy

Hi Stash! Another option to the Hillsounds are the MilSpecs from Sportsmans Guide. Yeah I know they sell cheesy crap but I got two pairs at about $17 ea. and they are very much like the Hillsounds. They do sell them as "one size fits all" so I had to take up on the chains on my daughters and add...

    Rainier Ranger Shot

Actually, I did and referenced it in Facebook but not here as I thought it had poor taste for this forum.

    Rainier Ranger Shot

War is a hell I have thankfully never had to visit but I have seen the toll it takes on some! In cases there is much denial that the addiction to gunmetal, cammo and an overall anarchist atitude toward authority could be signs of a pending issue with grave consequences. Hopefully warning signs...

Jill, Thor and I enjoyed meeting you on the trail today! We had blue skies all the way to Field, then overcast and lots of wind from Willey and out Avalon. Still were able to beat the rain.

Nice meeting you and Kody on the trail today! Thor and I got a late start but still beat the rain.

    2 rescued on Chocorua

The article said they went up the Piper Trail. Guess when the sun went down they must have lost there bearings? Don't know if charges are being discussed but certainly sounds like they should at least get an earful!

West, East, and North of the North Fork!

Like you said Becca, corduroy would be used in a muddy area. Also the pieces of wood used would be strong enough to support a draft horse pulling a load if they were laying in the mud. Where the large log on the left supports it and leaves a void underneath does not look like corduroy and a...

West, East, and North of the North Fork!

Hi Becca, you didn't happen to look under the corduroy structure to see if anyone or thing was under it did you? Great trip report! Interesting trek!

Passaconway and Whiteface from the Kank Nov 1

Were the bear prints evenly gaited or was this the big one with the lame front right paw? Its been following some folks from time to time and been reported on Blueberry Ledge Trail and Dicey Mill Trail.
