Giving way on the trail with snowshoes

It is an age old question..to snowshoe or not to snowshoe Certainly there is no better winter hike than a nice packed out snowshoe track with a half a foot of new snow on it gliding along with snowshoes on.. Fun! I also get that a hard packed frozen trail with microspikes rocks totally and is...

    Worst bug encounters ever

some times the bugs on the trails are annoying..i find by wearing sunglasses and keeping them out of my eyes i am okay as i am one of those %$#holes that bugs dont bite.. my worse bug experiences are for sure on Madison and Adams where the hybrid mutant bugs up there are down right scary some...

    Best Route For Isolation

On a nice hiking day with good weather it is worth doing Glen Boulder "up" at least then out the same way or Rocky Branch. Great views and a nice above treeline section. Most times though I use a combination of bushwhacks along Engine Hill and avoid the brook "trail" and the muddy sections on...

Looking for a nice motel or hotel to stay in near Gorham N.H.

Mount Madison has some very decent rooms and I like the fact that the owners are on site and take pride in their business...I usually dont sleep that late on a hike day so occasional truck noise at the corner has never been a problem at the Royalty the rooms down towards the ends in motel...

what bryan said..a couple of minor wet spots just off the ski trail but not a difficult ascent..on descent easy to get sucked off towards the kanc but trust your bearing

Some Wildcat ski trails closed to all use until further notice

I would guess there would be no issue taking the glades/bushwack route up on the north side of polecat either..no need to go anywhere near the constructions work

Where is the best place to get mountain weather reports?

Agreed with the Eye in the Sky..I think they do the best job. But also checking the Obs, Wunderground, and the Noaa site. Winds are the toughest thing and the Eye in the Sky elevation winds seems to work pretty well. Also have the weather radio on every morning

after much cutting by several groups of many blowdown nests for sure the ascent from the Notch is open..was there a couple of weeks ago and friends there last weekend. Recommendations for Strongest Collapsing Trekking Poles?

My first Komperdell Titanal Contour poles lasted for years and they were fantastic. Finally the tips wore down and I treated myself to some new poles last year. I have not had good luck since then smashing up one set of Black Diamonds basic flick lock, went back to Komperdells (twist lock) and...

Best direction to do Cabot - Horn loop?

which goes to show that we all have our own opinions. Last few times we did this route it was counterclockwize..wetness and a couple of crossings out of the way on Unknown Pond which is a nice ascent. A little steep on Cabot approach for abit but nothing taxing. Horn summit the same either way...
