A few more details on the Phillips Brook Windfarm

Another high-elevation forested ridge bites the dust...if this trend continues where do those who depend on this type of habitat go? We feel smart while we destroy habitat in the name of environmentalism. Tell it to the lynx. Oh wait...I forgot...without the windmills the whole world will...

    Wildcat pass required for hikers?

strong-arm tactics? really? Ski resorts sell fun. It's the product. Any restriction of anyone having fun in any way is not ever desirable or in any way profitable. Just think. Any such restriction is the result of dictates of the insurance company. Insurance companies get sued by scum...

Tripoli Road to become regular campground

Actually, the point is that they defintely do need a place, or better stated, the rest of the public needs for them to have a place. It's true that some may eventually graduate to a more mature attitude and move on to other things. But there will also be newcomers who hear about the mass...

Tripoli Road to become regular campground

I've seen it at it's worst...a Saturday night in July. These are not hikers, or people who appreciate the area for it's natural beauty, who are camping the way most think of camping. These are riff-raff party people. They come specifically to drink, drug and congregate. The crowd attracts...

A whole bunch of first's on Jan 1

Yay!!! a few nice things here, IMO. Alyssa and you had a great day together doing something new. She looks like she enjoyed it. You got your camera back after leaving it 3 miles into the forest on a mountain top, so you experience the comradery of the hiking community. The visit of the...

    Wildcat pass required for hikers?

The following is offered in good faith by a fellow hiker, and definately not as a representative of any company ( I hate what lawyers have done to us ). When the ski area is closed, skiing, skinning, snowshoeing or walking on the ski trails is prohibited. When the ski area is open, a pass is...

    Wildcat pass required for hikers?

I'm an instructor and I'm working today. I'll ask to be sure, but I know there is a new policy, at least concerning how they deal with this.

No!!!!!! Each person's favorite picture is just that, and this thread has been excellent so far because each poster has submitted just that. We have epic scenics, but we also have dawgs and kids and smiles...all are wonderful because they all convey whatever it is about hiking that is special...

    Overnight Parking Near Lily Pond?

confused...why the need to avoid crossing the river on the SRT? Since it's such a short distance from the trailhead, I would suggest taking a quick hike down to check it out. I've crossed there in high water without problems, and level is not at all high these days.

    2 rescued on Chocorua

these "lost hiker/bad signage" threads always give me the guilties for not adopting a trail... I plan to adopt one soon; a new year's resolution for 2012. I was surprised to see that the Oliverian Tr was an orphan.
