Very sorry to hear about his death. Prayers to his family and friends. Julie

Mt. Munroe via Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail 7/13/13

Perfect weather for a hike. Trail is easily followed and well maintained. It looked like someone cleared a tree from the path on the way to Gem Pool. The trail is mostly dry with a few muddy areas that can be avoided. The water crossings are fine, with some minor rock hopping. Amazing views...

Goose Eye via Goose Eye Trail 6/16/13

Got a late start and started hiking after 2pm. Light rain turned into a steady downpour. Learned that REI rainjacket was no longer waterproof! Trail in good condition on the ascent. Loved walking through the woods, scrambling up the rocks, and arriving at the summit. Some views. Raingear...

A Fond Farewell To The Whites

Ed, Those are wonderful pictures of you and Lauky. I am so sorry to see you go. I always liked reading your trail reports. You and Lauky have been a fixture on VFFT. I was getting nervous with the title of your post, fearing that Lauky had died. You will be missed! Julie

    Eiisenhower via Edmands Path 5/19/13

The first 2 miles of Edmands were dry. Then the trail alternated between soft snow and some ice with dry stretches. Still a lot of snow on the sides but melting. No traction needed ascending-could walk on the side of the snow. I tried using microspikes on the descent but took them off and on 3...

Jackson via Webster Jackson Trail 5/4/13

The first half mile is dry. After that there are patches of snow. After 1.4 miles there is still lots of snow. People are hiking on a monorail and beside it. Still a few feet of snow. On the way down, snow softened with an increase in post holing. Light traction is helpful, particularly on the...

Cannon via Lonesome Lake,Hi-Cannon, and Kinsman Ridge Trail 4/6/2013

Trail is well packed down until a little past the ladder. I put on snowshoes when trail became choppy. Beautiful, sunny day to hike. I went up the tower at the summit, and it was very windy. Saw suprisingly few people today.

Tecumseh via Mt. Tecumseh Trail 2/23/13

Most of the trail is well packed down, except for a few areas that are broken up by hikers barebooting. I used snowshoes throughout the hike which worked well. Beautiful hike with the snow lightly falling.

NH Proposes Fee If People Need To Be Rescued

I'm the woman who got charged $7,000 for the rescue on Jackson almost 2 years ago. I was found negligent because I didn't have a compass or GPS on me and made the decision to hike when forecast for above treeline conditions was very cold and windy. I had enough clothes, etc. to spend the night...

North Twin via North Twin Trail 11/17/12

We bushwacked on the way up and did the 3 water crossings on the way back. The second river crossing was a little dicey. Some of the rocks were submerged and others were coated with a thin layer of ice. I put on microspikes to cross, took a long leap, reached the rock, and then fell into the...

Galehead Mountain via Gale River Trail 10/21/12

This was the first time I'd hiked Gale River since the trail was rerouted. I miss the old trail with its wonderful views of the brook. The trail is covered with leaves the first mile or so. After that it becomes very muddy for at least a mile & a half. It's helpful to have hiking poles to get...

    Flume via Osseo Trail 10/5/12

Trail in good shape (thanks Fisher Cat) and easily followed. Ran into a couple of hikers who were returning a lost lab to her owner. Heard later that one of the men fell down one of the ladders while carrying the dog down. Dog reported to be okay. Hope the guy is okay. Gorgeous day to hike...

Osceola & East Peak via Osceola Trail 8/11/12

Osceola Trail to the summit is quite rocky with roots sticking out. waiting to trip you. Trail is wet, with a number of pools of water in the trail, as well as running water. Trail is well marked. No view from summit of Osceola, completely fogged in. Descending the trail to East Peak, the sun...
