    Help/advice - "hiker car" needed??

For just plain fun. A Wrangler. I have so much fun with my Jeep now not having to truck the kids around. Much smaller than the F-150 and Dodge 1500 crew cab. I bought this used with low mileage for a good price to replace the Dodge after the kids no longer needed me to truck them around. I use...

Thanks for this. Not to be argumentative but I have heard so many people say that this sounds like a fox. How can you tell that it is a Fisher? Regards, Keith

Advice for a New Englander moving to Utah

Well this sucks, for us. I will also miss your pictures and knowledge. I know little about Utah so I can't help you there but have a great time. Hopefully you will still drop in once and while with some non-moose photos and to let us know how you are doing. Look forward to hearing of your new...

    Fisher Cat

Truth be known, I probably saved this raccoons life. He was coming in from the south heading north when I caught him in my light and scared him back south. Seconds latter I hear the fisher coming from the north heading directly towards him. He veered west away from me. I think that raccoon owes...

    Fisher Cat

I already have plans to bring my game camera up to the lake house to get pictures of this guy. Audio will be more difficult. I wish I had my phone with me when he started his noises. I could have recorded it with an app I have. My wife can verify the noises though. It was freaking her out. I...

    Fisher Cat

Has anyone actually heard and better yet have a authentic audio recording of a Fisher Cat making its screeches? Does anyone else know the kinds of screeching I am talking about? I was out trying to watch the Perseid's and I had one walk up to me maybe 15 feet away. I was shining a very bright...

46-year-old hiker from Hinesburg dies on Hunger Mountain trail

Just checking, because on my read it appeared to me to be implicit in the narrative. If I misinterpreted it, then so be it. Me mentioning that I believe that the "Hike your own hike" group to be a very self reliant, knowledgeable about outdoor activities and generally very handsome/pretty...

46-year-old hiker from Hinesburg dies on Hunger Mountain trail

I reject out of hand the concept that "groupies" are somehow more noble, humane, or even more committed, loyal or caring, than another simply because they want to force their presence on an adult who has expressly stated his/her wish that their help isn't needed or wanted. On this we will need...

46-year-old hiker from Hinesburg dies on Hunger Mountain trail

For me, it is exactly that. Just an extension of my everyday existence. I don't spend as much time as I would like but I am certainly comfortable enough in the woods that it is just an extension of my everyday existence and how I treat people every day. I don't treat people differently simply...

Question about Legal Sleeping in the Whites

By way of explanation if you were talking about me. Again this has only occurred once that I can remember in a few decades of camping but it goes something like this. Arrive at the trail-head around 11PM and start in everyone feeling great. This is our normal routine. At 2AM start looking for an...

Man Seriously Injured at Silver Cascade (Crawford Notch): 04-Aug-2010

I have been involved in one rescue there myself. And correct. Usually people with flip-flops, not in particularly good physical shape heading up the herd path with roots and wet rock. Not a surprise that there are some accidents there. Usually though it is lower leg injuries. Not only involved...

Ash borers found in Catskill Forest Preserve

Oh my god. This has to be one of the signs of the coming of the Apocalypse. What kind of evil could produce such a.....oh......wait a minute. Emerald ash borers. Sorry, thought it was something else. :D:p Keith

Question about Legal Sleeping in the Whites

I have always tried to obey, and for the most part have always obeyed the rules. But, first and foremost I feel that if my continuing to prevent violation of one of those rules may result in injury. I don't continue. I don't know how the FS would interpret it but I would figure if they don't...

The year of the Dragon Fly?

I have noticed a large number of them also, some very large in CT also. I love dragonflies and often spend my lunch hour just watching them near the pond where I work. Only hummingbird flight fascinates me as much. You are probably correct about their food supply being at a peak. Keith
