    Side-Lined

Partial tear in ankle tendon on a hike in Sept. Boots of diminishing size, cortisone, PT 3x a week, new orthotics. Just as I was starting back caught the flu a little over a week ago so a bunch of the slow rebuilding on hold. Lots of people a lot worse off than me though.

    Dog Grooming Questions

With Lab, Toby, most everything falls off. Otherwise, I just run my finger nails lightly to get what's left. The rare exception the little beggar tick seed pods that need a Furminator.

Boreal forest between 3000'-3500' in the Catskills

If you have a copy of The Catskill 67 you'll find details of what the forest conditions are like. Mike Kudish's wonderful book, The Catskill Forest, has just been reprinted and includes a modern map. You'll have to dig to locate the woods condition on individual peaks as it's not peak-specific...

Adirondack Archangels - Book coming soon

One of our own here is the editor of the book to be published around the spring of 2016. She is donating all of the costs for the book (printing, editing, copy editing, graphics) with 100% of the proceeds going to the Adirondack Summit Steward program. The Adirondack Mt Club will be doing some...

    Toughest 3000'ers in ADKs?

Dennis, due to the recreation easements in the Little High Peaks, soon, maybe next year there will likely be a trail up Buell and along the ridge to Panther.

    Unrecognized Vermont 3000'er?

Adding to Doug Paul's comments - We've all read TRs where poster walked around in the woods and their GPS told them they were 6ft higher, 50 yds away from the canister. LOL

ADK New High Peaks Trail Map should be in every backpack leaving any trailhead!

Map was designed to improve on shortcomings of the NG maps. Instead of ADK providing Nat'l Geo with ability to use ADK's map info, the new ADK High Peaks trail map was designed from the ground up with the master, Tony Goodwin, leading the effort.

ADK New High Peaks Trail Map should be in every backpack leaving any trailhead!

1st edition sold our a while ago. 2nd edition in stock a week ago. 2nd edition has much clearer color delineation of public and private land which is a big help for our out of area residents AND for off trail hikers for the ADK 100 and other bushwhacks.

    Van Dorrien ADKs

You might take a look at climbing it from the NE, from the Pine Pond trail and avoid the up and down on Ampersand unless it's a two birds with one stone day.

Topo ! (National Geographic software) compatibility ?

Do you know if NG will still be running the paper mapping end of it for the new owner?

Topo ! (National Geographic software) compatibility ?

It seems like Win10 will run TOPO program. A guy who runs a tech company loaded the program on his fast Win10 laptop and it works. I need to test fly it myself as he's not familiar with the program. Looking ahead, I believe NG sold everything to AllTrails where you can pay the new company to...
