Climbing in the South Basin, Mt. Katahdin, ME (2/30/11)

Its to the right of Piggy Wiggy. We climbed Dougals Delight, it was the most IN out of the gullies on that side. Also I was concerned about avalanche activity on the snowfield above Piggy Wiggy's ice pitches. Our original plan was Chavin Cole but it was bare rock in some places along that route.

Climbing in the South Basin, Mt. Katahdin, ME (2/30/11)

This is less about words, more about pictures. I went up to Baxter State Park for the first time in winter to check out the ice lines in the South Basin with a few friends. That place is like Huntington Ravine on steroids. Enough said. Jeff and I climbed a nice route on the right side of the...

Where did you get that suit for Terra? I have a friend with a springer who accumulated about a million ice balls on his stomach last time we went out in the snow. Would be cool to get something like that.

    Ice Year in Review 2010

Well, it's been awhile since I hijacked this hiking forum with a climbing trip report, so here we go. The beginning of this ice season has been awesome. I've been climbing ice practically every weekend since November 6th. Last year, it wasn't until December 6th when giggy and I cruised up...

climbing crampons; G14's, another G12 or somehing else ?

Ole symmetric dual, but I'm gonna try out mono this Sunday at Frankenstein.. see if I like it. Yeah, I love the option of being able to switch it up.. although a very good climber once said to me, you got the option of two points, might as well use 'em both. The front points are f*ing monsterous...

climbing crampons; G14's, another G12 or somehing else ?

"Mountaineering" crampons will get you up anything if you're good, too. I have the Petzl M10's.. I'll give 'em vote, though if you are looking for cheaper options they might not be your first choice since they are on the more expensive end, but I love them. I use them for both 'alpine'...
