Self-taught SAR dog to the rescue at Mt. Major

Truly amazing, what dogs can take upon themselves. I can only hope that Dugan 3.8-legs would be half as helpful.

    Best hike in SW Mass?

I forgot about Monument - very nice. Both this and STT are very doggable. I wasn't as thrilled about Bash Bish, but I was greeted by the crowd gathered on a hot summer day. Perhaps February would be better?

    Best hike in SW Mass?

A second vote for Alander. Perhaps a section of the South Taconic Trail?

    Mt. Tom in Massachusetts

On Nonotuck, that'd be the Eyrie House ruins. When there not long ago I saw that they'd added a sign with information about what it once was. Roller skating??? Mt Tom too had a summit house at one point. The cliffs are magnificent, aren't they? If you take East street west from route 5...

Any Quinoa eaters/fans/gourmands out there ?

Yay! I can give up that step! I only have one seive fine enough, and that only holds 1/2 cup at a time. Tedious to rinse large quantities.

Any Quinoa eaters/fans/gourmands out there ?

Millet is another quick cooking grain - good trail food.

Any Quinoa eaters/fans/gourmands out there ?

ToeCozy - I call that "thread" around the middle a halo! Whole Foods and Wild Oats is where I've seen it. I've read that if you don't rinse the grains well before cooking that they'll be bitter. Because of that, I've never tried cooking it without rinsing - can anyone confirm? Good trail...

    Slippery Rocks

Wachusett is particularly bad when humid. Some of the rocks are so slick they may as well have been oiled!

At least they'd be chewing on the tent - just make sure not to sleep near that piece of it!

    Pine Tar Removal

Don't even bother with dish washing soap - been there, done that, doesn't help. Seeing DougPaul's advice to let it dry reminds me of another. Put it in the freezer for a few hours. Crack off as much as possible before using a remover. I can't guarantee that protective coatings wouldn't crack...

    Pine Tar Removal

I've found 3 things that work: nail polish remover, isopropyl alcohol, and peanut butter. I'm guessing the latter two would be safest for nylon. Let us know which works best.

Show us and/or describe what is in your daypack?

So - not necessarily that it will be heard further, but that you can do repeated blasts at regular intervals for longer than you could do with voice alone. That I can accept. Sweeper - don't know what kind of whistles, but both were LOUD!
