    Adams Slide 9/22/07

Good TR (and cute kitty avatar too!) Overall, I was disappointed with my outing on this so-called lost trail. I think because I'd anticipated it to be so much more from the old descriptions. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, just not nearly as difficult as is claimed. IIRC, it isn't at all...

Heavy Snow Warning In Effect ... Southern Sierra Nevada

Where's the fun in knowing the secret?? Looking and searching are the fun parts of bushwhacking!

To give credit where credit is due, a big thank you to Pete Hickey for his idea of jotting down distance and bearing of each leg on scotch tape then attaching it to the compass.

Let's Talk About Disgusting Back Sores

To extract, pierce the capsule with a needle or pin then squeeze the oil out, rub on affected area. I imagine the fish oil was suggested due to the omega-3's. From what I've read, there's not much evidence that it aids skin problems. On the other hand, there no evidence to the contrary...

That's what I keep telling RnR, but he doesn't sound too thrilled.

I hate to say it, but I weenied out within a few tenths of the summit. I was cold and wet and moving wasn't helping me to warm up, and also having an off day health-wise. We agreed to split the group with SilentCal and Bucky making a push for the summit, while RnR and I turned back. Well...

    Fall on Mt. Tom

All of which will incur a cost (of both time and money) that didn't need to happen.

    Fall on Mt. Tom

I'm sad to see that the M-M sign has been defaced. I know from talking with the Berkshire AMC that it took a hefty chunk of change to pay for and install those signs.

    AT near Stratton, ME

As Albee pointed out, this isn't Maine. Peaks' answer refers to Stratton VERMONT. Kelly Stand (aka Arlington West Wardsboro Road) is now paved between route 100 and Grout Pond access. It is driveable all the way through. As Peaks notes, it is plowed only to the large parking area at the...

MA Fisheries and Wildlife compass course

Certificate received yesterday, only 3 days after taking the course. Hmmm.... free course = same day patch, 3 days for certificate... curious, isn't it, that the ones that are paid for take so much longer to arrive?

    Fun with Poison Ivy

I too was never bothered by the stuff until I followed a trail through a thick stand of raspberry brambles twined with poison ivy. There was a lovely warning sign on the *other* side. I've also long guessed that my dogs might be vectoring the oils to my skin but couldn't be sure. How long...

    Fun with Poison Ivy

Hmmm... there's tons of jewel week flowering beside the driveway... a big tub in the master bath... bottle of red open in the kitchen... One way or another, I'll sleep!

That pretty much sums it up for me too!

Don't worry - there are loads of places to explore in MA too.

MA Fisheries and Wildlife compass course

It was a very good class. Despite each of us having some knowledge of map and compass work, we each learned something new. I've done a lot of rambling without map or compass out at Bears Den. I learned that my approach to exploring is different with a compass than without. I wasn't paying...

    Fun with Poison Ivy

What do you mean, just you? PoisonIvy was ironically free of poison ivy also. Yes!!! 15 minutes with scorching hot water and a shower massage and I am a happy hiker.

    Fun with Poison Ivy

I am appreciative of the earlier hot water explanation, but right now I don't care *WHY* hot water works so well and feels so good. After getting covered from the knees down last weekend, I am just glad that it does. Clued someone else into it too! Yay - hot water!! <aaaahhhhh>

    Mt. Tom in Massachusetts

Sounds like a horse fly to me. 2 or 3 times the size of a deerfly but about 100 times as painful. They're around too, saw a few on the Sisters last weekend.
