Haven't been up there in twelve years, but I'm dying to visit the "new" high point, as I'm sure it's vastly different than what was previously thought to be the "peak."

The poll allows multiple selections & I picked the top two. I don't see myself going back after I complete doing the list in each season & solo. So far two seasons including a solo trip. Getting ready for trip 3 in 3 seasons.

After that I might consider stopping on the slide while kids or friends go to the summit.

As of right now I am thinking I will not be a Catskill 3500 member because some of the worst bushwhacks seem silly, a NE100 because if I'm driving 9 hours from my house to Maine it's only to BSP & while I'm planning on finishing the Northeast 115, I have no plans to go back & do Allen in the Winter (I can't see myself doing Couchie in the winter either) so I can't see myself being a winter 46er.

I do have 6 of the Southern 6K's done so maybe that will be the next list... :D

might hike it at some stage. Wooded peaks just don't get me excited, but I am sure at some stage, I will get there. It sure as heck is not on my must do list.

was tossing the idea of hiking it this past sat - but decided to walk right by it. could have easily hiked the slide on my way out of the pemi.

Some amc type list bagger at work (non VFTT) said to me that is the hardest of the peaks and one to measure yourself by - I am still working up to that level.

Owl's Head was the only one of the 48 that I failed to summit on my first attempt - an icy October day when I didn't have any traction aids. Headed back in February and loved it! I plan to head there again this fall hopefull, by way of the Twins and 13 Falls as a backpacking trip. I'd also like to try it via the old route - Lincoln slide!

Someday I'd like to hike to the "Real" Owl's Head - the pointy peaks on the south end.

I hiked it because at the time I was going for my 4000 footer patch. I am no longer into the peakbagging thing really. I am going back this weekend because a couple friends need it for their 48 list. Would I go back if not for them? Sure. Its not a spectacular peak, but last time (as well as this coming time) it was done as a backpacking trip, so that made it a little more interesting. I mean, c'mon....camping in the Pemi....what is not to love!?!?! :D

Next July, I will be climbing it again for the 2nd time. I figure I should go back there so I can claim that I bagged the new official peak. I just hope I don't just go right by the cairn (?) at the bottom as it is made to be obscure or have great difficulty in finding the actual summit. Also, my friend will be with me and climbing it for the first time.

How about "because I love hiking"

Happy Trails :)
I'm sure you can find this in the list of selections somewhere. Probably the one I chose. I think I just phrased it a little more cynical than that. :D

Wu, you forgot the option "Because it was winter!" :D

But I really did it because I wanted to hike with RocksnRolls. And Early Bird, though I didn't know that when I started. A couple of excellent Owl's Head hiking companions!

Giggy, this ain't half as insane as most of the stuff you do, so just do it. I might even join you.

It has always been a nice walk for me. Great trailbed and not much grade until the slide, it never feels like I hiked the distance when I get out to the parking lot.

My winter approach from Hellgate was real nice, up a open hardwood slope, with occasional views of the Bonds until the quite close to the ridge. Then slab the ridge staying at the edge of the dense stuff until near the center of the ridge.

I love to hike, but I have to admit that of the all peaks we've done and especially the 4000 footers, Owl's Head would definitely be at the bottom of the barrel of places to go back to... definitely didn't like the slide! Plus there are so many other peaks I'd rather hike again, and so many peaks I haven't done that I'd like to do... just don't see myself going back.... does that make me a bad person?! :D

I'm doing it again this winter. IIRC the views on the slide compensated for the lack of summit views. Also the historic rail grade that Lincoln brook trail follows for quite a way is also a treat (ever notice the old abandoned trestle approaches etc?)

Yes!

No, just kidding, but I love slides! :D

I went the first time as a peakbagger. It rained, and the up/down/up/down from Galehead hut seemed like a killer! I said I wasn't going back! But, I did! :D

Laurie and I went last summer via Lincoln Woods and this may be a longer hike miles wise, but the approach is so easy, and did I mention I love Slides! :D

We were out and back so quick, we were drinking a beer in Woodstock by 3:30 PM! I got to one more bump than the first time, and I don't know which bump is was, but I'm not going back for another bump! I might go back and climb the slide though! :D
