I LOVE Owl's Head. I've been twice in summer and twice in winter. I enjoy the remote, wilderness feeling it gives; the sounds of the brook; and then that great scramble up its slide. In winter I like the bushwhack from Black Pond and then the ability to follow our snowshoe tracks for the return. When the weather on the summits is lousy, Owl's Head is a great option.

This one really is about 'journey, not the destination!'

Owls head again and again and again

I did Owl's Head c. 1969 as part of NH 4Ks. (Then they 'discovered' and 'forgot' the higher peak.) Did it again about 1998 as part of my sons NH 4ks. Did it again a few years back, (as part of finishing 4Ks a 3rd time) just a couple weeks before someone 're-discovered' the higher peak.

And, if my legs will carry me there, I may yet do it again, to get to the 'real' peak.

I like it. It's a nice mountain.. but then again, aren't they all, in their own way?
