What is the equivalent of climbing Everest 16 times?

Update Seema sez: "So the weather is looking crappy for saturday. Better for friday. We are going to try and do two 22 mile days on wed and thurs after the 19.5 today and try to summit friday. This will likely be too hard and it will end up being saturday anyway but we are going to try like...

What is the equivalent of climbing Everest 16 times?

Message from Seema on Saturday said that with the heavy loads of food on their backs they are only making about 10 miles a day. Looks like Saturday is the more likely finish date, not Friday.

Coolest 4K Peak Name in Northeast

Okay, I know these don't make the 4k cut, but who cares. In Vermont there are hills named: Old Shincracker Grandpa's Knob Swearing Hill Fun!

Reach the Beach, Sept 12-13, 2008

Wow..that caught me off guard and cracked me up good! Good one Bubba. The skeevy-er the van the more extra credit points you get! Oo Oo...what if you raced in the A-Team Van? That would really kick butt. So many possibilities for van racing. Why hasn't it been done as an organized event before?

    3 Days on Umbagog

A trip up to Umbagog has been on my list of places to visit. Soon. Darren, as always, love your photos. Thanks for this inspiring trip report and the great photos. I may be picking various VFTT brains for Umbagog details in the next year.

    8/30 The Forehead, Mansfield-Hell Brook/LT/Maple Ridge/Wampahoofus/LT/Cliff/ Ski tra

The hike I did up Hell Brook a couple years ago ranks as one of my top 10 favorite hikes. Loved every second of it's butt kicking climb and something about the whole day and the trails I took felt perfect! Glad you enjoyed a day on Mansfield.

    Vermont road condition.

Yup, the town garage folks are a good resource in the winter, too, if you're unsure of road or parking conditions. So keep that in mind for this winter! Don't forget your helmet or you'll end up looking like Paradox! Also, don't know what your plan is exactly, but while near the...

    Vermont road condition.

I'm not entirely sure, but looking at the Delorme gazetteer I'd guess that some of the side roads are likely dirt and some parts of Downingsville Rd too (although if it is dirt it's probably well maintained). I have only been between those two trail heads during a prolific fluffy snow event...

    Camel's Hump Acess Roads

You could also call the Green Mountain Club at 802-244-7037 and ask them for any reports about road washouts in that area. Or better yet, call the Huntington Town Garage at (802) 434-2710 and ask them about washouts. In a more normal summer you wouldn't have any trouble. But I'm not willing to...

    Lake O'Hara sample pics

I'm drooling! Thanks for posting, Neil. Good to be reminded of why I loved my first trip there and why I want to go back. Was the hut first come/first served style? Did you use any particular hiking/scrambling guide book for planning your adventures? Thanks again. Great pictures.

What is the equivalent of climbing Everest 16 times?

Hey Meri...congrats on your first ever post. ;) Glad to know that Seema and Brian were well entertained over the weekend. Hopefully all of our visits won't slow them down too much, but I suppose that's a risk. It poured here in Springfield, VT all day. I wished I could find them on the trail...

Official Sighting and Update I met up with Seema and Brian at Story Spring Shelter 3.6 miles south of the Kelly Stand Road crossing near Stratton Mountain. I hit the trail at about 7:50am and got to the shelter sometime around 9:15 or so I'm guessing. I could hear them chatting with some south...

    Recommended Reading?

For some Vermont-centric tales, check out some of the books by Joe Citro. I really enjoyed reading both Good Morning Midnight and Losing the Garden. Both about Guy Waterman. Chimney Pond tales:Yarns told by Clayton Dudley by Clayton Hall is full of tall tales. Most enjoyable when read out...

That is so fantastic that Nancy met up with you guys again!!! Hooray! I will be hoping to catch up with you for a bit soon. I don't know if I can bang out many 13.5 mile days in a row, but I should be able to do a couple at least. I'm keeping track of you here and I'll let you know when I might...
