Does anyone recall if the stretch of road from the Battell Trail to the Jerusealum Trial is paved? (Want to tag both Abraham and Ellen, and don't really care which way, N-S or S-N) It is just under 6 miles, and just curious if a road bike or the mountain bike would be a better choice for spotting.

Thanks!

Christine

I'm not entirely sure, but looking at the Delorme gazetteer I'd guess that some of the side roads are likely dirt and some parts of Downingsville Rd too (although if it is dirt it's probably well maintained). I have only been between those two trail heads during a prolific fluffy snow event several winters ago so the roads were obscured (unfortunately so was any hope of a parking space safely off the road). Anyway, it seems like it would be prudent to take the mountain bike.

You could always call the local town garage or town office.

Have fun. That's a great ridge between Abe and Ellen.

Thanks Toe Cozy!

Looks like on the Delorme Topo that if I hike S-N and then ride the bike back I will have a 500' downhill ride, and only have to gain about 200' to get to the Battell Trail.

Even I could do that I think...

It is only ~ 6miles. Mountain bike it is, thank you.

Great idea about calling the town garage, never would have thought of that.

Yup, the town garage folks are a good resource in the winter, too, if you're unsure of road or parking conditions. So keep that in mind for this winter! Don't forget your helmet or you'll end up looking like Paradox!

Also, don't know what your plan is exactly, but while near the Waitsfield area I've always wanted to check out the original American Flatbread. This is the website info for eating their pizza. If you're there at the right time, maybe this would fit in to your schedule!
