    Mt Adams - ???

With 4 peaks to go in winter, I also need Adams and may be available any day this long weekend. What day were you considering Brian? I'm open but obviously it will depend upon the forecast.

Boston Globe Article - Winter 4000 footers

Folks passed this on to me because many people I know would not even have the foggiest notion that people hike in the mountains in winter at all if they didn't know me (some of my friends and acquaintances are not what you would call "outdoors-y" :D). I thought it was interesting only from the...

Snow Amounts in NH and White Mountain region from yesterday's storm??

Thanks for chiming in, all! Should be interesting to see what comes of this next one .... Here we go again!!! Wish it would just snow up there, maybe get a touch warmer and be dry as a bone down here for my commute South of Boston every day! :D Already looking like maybe a snow day from school...

Snow Amounts in NH and White Mountain region from yesterday's storm??

Would love to hear any snow amount reports from folks who live up North and in the vicinity of the Whites. Friends west of Plymouth and in the North Conway area are reporting a wide array of snow totals and conditions, so more beta would be useful.

    New Years Hike Anyone?

I don't need any of those for my winter 4K list (I've got only The Bonds and Adams left) but my goal is simply to hike every weekend and day off I possibly can. That being said, I can't imagine this forecast is going to change appreciably for me to want to hike in the conditions that are being...

Giving way on the trail with snowshoes

Holy hell! I have not had this much fun in a good long time! Highly entertaining thread, all. And thank you Tim Seaver; I'm absolutely having some of those badges printed up. This should be a FANTASTIC winter out on the trails!!!!!!!!!!! :D

    Roadside camping near Conway?

Any of the places that used to be frequented in the area, that I know of at least, (Town Hall Rd. in Intervale, etc.) are off limits in recent years and will get you at the very least thrown out by patrolling local police. I honestly don't know of anything in N. Conway, Conway vicinity. South...

    Tripyramids, Saturday, October 5

Wanted to do this last weekend but got a very late start on Saturday due to exhaustion from my crazy schedule and commute sneaking up on me! So, I would much prefer to get out there while I still can (Livermore closure impending) and do so with company instead of all alone. Anyone care to join...

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

While I abhor nuclear, I'm not a fan of wind farms either, except in specific locations. I think the real solutions will not readily come, sadly, because they would require that all of us live differently and sacrifice some things, and we Americans are told we should never ever have to do this...

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

You took the words right out of my mouth, Kevin! I would give you a greenie, but alas, they are no more. :p:D

    NH 48 at midnight

Love your "think out of the box" do-it-yourself list. These are always more meaningful. Congrats to you and Marley. Enjoy it!!!

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

I saw the NHPR report, as well, and while Northern Pass' new bid is a stretch, it still makes me seriously nervous. SPNHF will certainly make a hue and cry over this "new route" and all that it would entail. Hopefully that will just mean more opponents to this proposed debacle.

Best phone cases and packing methods for smartphones

Love all these recommendations, everyone; thank you! I went with the case by ballistic that fits this exact phone, which I found online for under $25. It appears to be highly recommended and similar to Otter Box but with easier access to ports and supposedly better closures for keeping out...

Best phone cases and packing methods for smartphones

Great stuff! Thanks everyone. I think it's pretty interesting that there is such a range in responses. I am not used to spending money on much, but the phone should be well worth the cost (some would say not a lot at all but quite a bit to me) considering it's camera alone not to mention now...

Best phone cases and packing methods for smartphones

I want to make clear immediately that the phone will not be serving as emergency equipment for me! ;) I mostly want to take it along for the camera's capabilities, especially since my actual camera is fairly bulky and heavy. I don't HAVE to bring it along, and certainly don't want to destroy...

Free Screening of "The People's Forest" about the creation of the WMNF

I was there, and knew I wouldn't recognize anyone, which is why I asked here beforehand, hoping I might get to say hi to some VFTTers. The museum actually was open before the film, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's small but impressive and growing. Everyone connected with the film who I met...

Northern Trespass film, Wednesday July 24 at 7PM

The movie NORTHERN TRESPASS is being screened at the Red River Theatre in Concord on Wednesday July 24 at 7PM. I am not at all interested in getting into a political debate with anyone here, just thought some in the VFTT community might be interested in seeing this. Here's the description of...

Free Screening of "The People's Forest" about the creation of the WMNF

I concur. Dave Govatski is one of my favorite people, so I'm glad his interviews were such a big part of the film. The forest service film clips from between 1920 and 1930 were utterly incredible. We're so lucky to have the WMNF, so the story of how it came to be should be celebrated...
