    Killington Ski Trails?

Cool. Yeah, I found that map but wasn't sure anything would be ok, given what the folks on the phone said. Thanks!

    Killington Ski Trails?

I am planning a trip to Mansfield Saturday and Killington Sunday. According to the GMC mud season is over and hiking is fine. However, the folks I spoke with thought the Killington ski trails would be too muddy to responsibly hike, but weren't really sure. I couldn't find any recent on-line...

    REI Jacket for Women

I'm with Tim. Pit zips are a must for me in a hard shell. But I am fussy about layers and ventilation, preferring maximum choice. Some people seem much more comfortable than I am with minimal adjustments.

    The hiking season begins!

Wow! that's a lot of antlers! Are you by any chance willing to disclose the location? What a great incentive to get my daughter on the trails! Great pictures as always!

Easter Sunrise Hike up Mount Monadnock

I just missed you guys! (Well, sort of). I had the same idea of a sunrise hike up Monadanock but a stomachache the night before kept me up too late for the planned 5:00 am start. So I staid "home" (in-laws farm in Fitzwilliam) for the Easter Bunny festivities and then escaped for a 9 am start. I...

Has anyone else read "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed?

Thanks for the recommendation. I just picked it up last night. In a similar vein, I enjoyed Jennifer Pharr Davis's Becoming Odyssa, mostly a coming-of-age story about her first AT completion and only a little about her record-breaking trip.

Man down (but not out) on fabulous 48 finish on N. (and S.) Twin

Thanks Silverefox and Summerset! Of course I remember our Flume hike together, Summerset! It was great! As for a spare set of clothes, I too carry a pair in a dry sack inside a trash-bag lined pack. And many others in this big group also had spares, so I don't think there was any real safety...

Man down (but not out) on fabulous 48 finish on N. (and S.) Twin

Thanks MTNRUNR! I love winter hiking and am already looking forward to next year (I like summer hiking too though!) You are right Ellen! Packing a change of clothes is a must in these conditions. It would have been a hike-ending incident without them. Mansfield/AKA Steve, you were the hero...

Man down (but not out) on fabulous 48 finish on N. (and S.) Twin

What a winter this has been! So many great hikes for me, and with such great weather for virtually all of them. My all-season finish on North Twin was no exception, with bright blue skies, temps in the high 30s and 40s, and a gentle breeze. Add in my first undercast, great views, a little...

The Yin and Yang of Madison and Adams on a Winter Day 3-10-12

Hey John, great pictures as always! Love the blizzard in blue sky, really captures the feel of the moment. Not quite as nice as the day we were up there:) but with a bit more drama. I guess Congratulations are in order for your single season finish?! Well done! :D
