Interesting Situation at Baxter: Car Boot

for clarification, it was near a trailhead and there are no phones, etc.. near. Cell phone coverage in my expereince is next to none. Just thinking if a medical emergency in which the person could get to the car, but really needed to get out of dodge ASAP - waiting for the boot to come off...

Interesting Situation at Baxter: Car Boot

so, a few of us saw a car with a booted tire in baxter that was in a no parking zone...at or near a trailhead I thought this was odd and maybe a bit overkill. Ticket - sure, but a boot? what would have happened inf that person needed the car in an emergency and couldn't drive it away...

    Pemi loop 9-21

I donno - 10 hours is pretty damn quick. I did the sub 14 and was thinking I could maybe shave an hour - many 90 minutes off that had I ran more and stayed less at the hut... But, I couldn't see myself doing anything under 12. So, 10 hours is pretty fckin good IMO. 7 hours like kevin...

    Who does trail work?

simply don't have the time - lucky to get north once a month to hike. Trail work is noble and all, and I am not proud to say I don't do it - but the reality is - I don't - rather spend the limited time doing stuff. just being honest - but to I also do the minimal amount of yardwork...

    Leaps of faith, name them!

climbing up lincoln slide, got a tad "off route" whatever that means - since there is no "route" - ended up in on a rock and had to jump a couple foot wide gap - uphill to a slopping rock to avoid falling down into the chasm - would have sucked trying to get out it. If I recall, nearly lost it...

    Frozen Snow, Ropes, & Trust

I was replying in the context of a glaicer (tho that wasn't the question here after re-reading, but was in my mind that way) - where the climbing isn't hard, but a crevasse fall might be an issue and its worth the risk to climb roped w/o pro if the situation calls for it. But generally, yea...

    Sedona AZ hiking ?

what he said! I was there 10 yrs ago on my honeymoon don't recall may trail names and stuff - but everything we did (short, easy stuff) was great. Watch out for rattlesnakes. :D We also took a off road jeep trip - and that was also fun. Its touristy - but good way to get some of the...

    Frozen Snow, Ropes, & Trust

There is no easy to answer to this... I am no expert but, tend to either really shorten the rope to prevent any extra slack (we did this on mt blanc tacul) or place pickets... placing pickets takes time and is not always an option... what I have been doing when climbing with folks about the...

    Pemi Wilderness Bridge Removal Project

should make a big party out of it - light the fcker up with fuel - bring a few barrells of suds in, portable weber grill, good loud portable sound system and party all night... at the end of the day - destroying things is quite fun - and even more when your half in the bag. thats my version...
