Old Jackson Road to Lowe's Bald Spot summit, about 4.5 miles roundtrip.

Larisa, the girls and I joined giggy and his family on a lovely hike to Lowe's Bald Spot today. We arrived quite early, as did Larisa, so we spent some time romping about the picnic tables by the Pinkham Notch Visitor's Center. Eventually, we meandered over to the trailsign and took a picture.

Giggy, his wife Deb, and their four year old son Connor arrived, and we set out along the wooded path.

It was a very casual trip -- lots of stops to tie shoe laces, rest on rocks, drink water, delayer, etc. During one of our breaks, the girls both sat on Larisa and mugged for the camera.

The trail alternates between flat and moderately steep. It provided a nice little work-out for the day.

We arrived at the top to find great views of Adams, the Wildcats, other various peaks and bulges.

It was a tad on the windy side, just enough to almost make you want to put on your gloves. We all sat, relaxed, and ate lunch (and chocolate!).

After eating, the girls and Connor chased each other 'round a bit, then played ring-around-the-rosy.

When we'd had our fill of food and wind, we all began the trek back down.

Along the way, Alex looked up and pointed out the leaves on this tree. The sun was shining through them and they looked bright pink. In this photograph, they appear red...but in the moment, on the path itself, looking up...they truly seemed candy-pink. Gorgeous.

We all made it back in fine form. It was a good hike for little legs, exactly the right kind of outing for Sage. The girls very much enjoyed meeting Connor and playing with him up and down the trail, and I enjoyed seeing Larisa again and meeting giggy and his wife, Deb.

A nice day out-of-doors.

Good to see a report about a destination that is infrequently posted.

Lowe’s Bald Spot is a nice spot. I was there recently en route to another destination. It was the first time I had been there in the summer months. It was a real pleasure not to have to negotiate the climb up that rock face with ice & snow on it! However, on the flip side, it is fun to do a controlled slide back down it (“controlled” being the operative word!:D).

Looks great! I love Lowe's Bald Spot - such amazing views for a moderate hike. Looks like it was the right place to be out of the wind Saturday as well. Sure better than on the summit! Sage's blog is really starting to fill in with some great hikes. She'll be chasing Alex up the 4Ks before long. Better stay in shape - that's going to be "youthful energy times 2"!

Trish and giggy - Thank you so much for letting me tag along. Lowe's Bald spot really is a pretty special place. It was wonderful to finally get out and enjoy the mountains again!

Mountains + great company + chocolate = Happy LRiz :D

That's a fun walk. Isidora, Elmore and I went up there in June when the waterfalls were really big. Definitely a good one for the littler people.
