    Ultralite bivys

Considering picking up a good ul bivy for a ~2700 mile mtb ride this year, any opinions on the Montbell UL bivy or any other particular kiind? Would be out west along a very rough estimate of the continental divide.... I tend to like the Montbell stuff so I'm starting with that, plus I know...

    Grout Pond, VT in winter

I'd expect if anything, snowmobilers cause they could snowmile either from the LT or arlington stratton road or from the somerset reservoir where there is sure to be a lot of snowmobile usage in the winter... (as evidence from the plethora of snowmobile trail markers I saw from kayaking there...

    Ruts from Snow Bikes

Sometimes that quiver overfloweth :D Same idea, a fat tire running a low PSI, will float on top of sand/snow in certain conditions... Jay

    Ruts from Snow Bikes

There are "snow bikes" where they replace the front wheel with a skid. I've seen those before... If I saw a sign that said "No monster" I'd either think it was referring to the energy drink or perhaps I'd have a quiet day on the hills w/o being attacked by Godzilla. :D Jay

    Ruts from Snow Bikes

Yeah, I believe I saw a guy riding a fatbike along the road to the summer trailhead on Carrigain one winter ago. You can kind of liken this to the emergence of mountain biking in general many years ago in the say the mid 80s when hikers are soon forced to deal with fat tire riders and mud...

    Ruts from Snow Bikes

Was tempted to buy a used Salsa Mukluk 3 from a bike shop over in hadley but refrained. If you want to check out the emerging field of fatbiking to the general public check out Kingdom Trail's facebook page. They always seem to have FB updates on their trail status WRT to fatbikes.... Have...

    Little kid sleeping bag

I gave my 2 year old nephew the "Woobie" from REI as a christmas gift but it hasn't been used. Looking at it, it looks pretty nice as a sleeping bag. My sister intends to use it while car camping in the summertime.. Jay

    Catskills: Bear Pen and Vly

There should still be a canister on Vly, no canister on BearPen. Crampons would probably be overkill, but some kind of traction aid would be needed I think now. All my snow has melted from my yard now pretty much here in the berkshires... Jay

    Placid Boatworks - Fire

I didn't but I heard about it from Coldfeet at the Catskills 3500 club winter weekend... :-( I hope they are able to recover and rebuild and perhaps even better than before! I feel bad also for "Cake Placid" (I love that name!) and Rick's Taxi who are also in the same building. Coldfeet...

Baxter Park Nesowadnehunk access in Winter

Thanks :), I finally found a ice cream store here that carrys Giffords AND their "Maine Black Bear" flavor here in Pittsfield, MA this past summer. There was another place that carries Giffords but they didn't carry the brand and I almost got a small grocery store here to carry the gallons. This...

Baxter Park Nesowadnehunk access in Winter

And a short snowshoe to Sentinel Mt is worth it!!! :) (even if you are breaking trail). That was one of my solo trips from Abol Bridge the week I spent up around there in winter...I broke pretty much all the way from Foss and Knowles Pond.. and then missed the short cut to Daicey pond and...
