    Best way up Chocoura?

Champney Falls is infinitely more interesting than the Piper Trail. I've taken many a newcomer up both, and Champney Falls is the no-brainer for me, for all of the reasons others have mentioned.

    West Tecumseh and Northwest Hancock

It's definitely not that impressive... A small bump about 20 or so feet off the trail.

catching a ride in the whites

where are you dudes stashing your bikes? i love the bike idea, but i'll be damned if i'm leaving one of my babies and my campagnolo components exposed to the weather and potential predators... ;)

    Mount Guyot

I would not believe any such claim unless you rigorously collected data, performed a hypothesis test, and were able to report your findings at a 95% confidence level. And were able to prove both the accuracy and precision of the instruments used in data collection, of course. ;)

When all you need is a blue hill or two

Are you sure that's what this guy was driving at? I think that a lot of people view a woman hiking solo in the Blue Hills as far more "dangerous" than a woman hiking solo in WMNF or whatever remote wilderness area that one can think of. This is because of the perception that grimey types...

Please suggest a NH 4k I can complete before 1:26PM.

my pick would be jackson. waumbek's a haul to get up there, so that's not the best choice if you wanna be sure of being "official." both cannon and jackson are very accessible and pretty easy. in comparing the dominant speed/peakbagger routes, it is my opinion that jackson via webster/jackson...

    ditching the koflachs?

Update So I got the LaSportiva Nepal Evo's today. I haven't yet tried them in the field, but all I can say so far is wow. They feel like real shoes-not concrete casts with mushy stuff inside them. They are stiff in all the right places, and flexible in all the right places. Even after multiple...

    cold weather overpants

the feathered friends pants are what you have described above. i like the ID pants, it's just personally, for the conditions you've described (and i think i know perfectly what you mean), i'd rather have much more loft than they offer. somebody brought up the down versus synthetic issue. for...

    cold weather overpants

i love wild things, but the EP pant is not really a great insulator in terms of what hikerfast is looking for. honestly, feathered friends, while typically expensive, has some pretty great stuff available for under $200 in the overpants/insulating pants department. check out the helios pant or...
