Four Days in the Whites, 7/24-7/27

That's a full schedule! Too bad you didn't get many views. You'll just have to come back and visit again on some better weather days. ;)

Hiker Dies from Fall in Acadia

The Precipice trail just opened for the year on the 23rd. A sharp reminder that there can be no fall zones even on small mountains. Rest in peace, young lady.

    Options for Bonds Hike

Something to note: the last 2 (3?) crossings on the bondcliff trail are completely dry. The one before the stairs had no water. We did see some water running off the rocks around ~4000 feet, but I wouldn't say that's reliable.

Mt Washington via Tuckerman Ravine Trail 7/20 for Seek The Peak

Yes, that was me. I thought your picture looked familiar I couldn't place it though. I think we hiked through the new section of the Gale River trail together as a group for a bit if I recall correctly. And from your signature, it looks like we both adopted a trail on the same mountain. Small...

Not much for bluberries this year

There were lots of ripe blueberries up on Bondcliff this weekend. I haven't been to Blue Job since they've been in season this year. I'll have to make a trip to see how the crops are doing (literally acres of blueberry fields there).

Mt Washington via Tuckerman Ravine Trail 7/20 for Seek The Peak

Hi fellow Barrington-ite! :D I think, STP is a necessary evil for the observatory (they raised close to $300k this year I think?) and the summit is always a mess in the summer. Doubly so on STP day. Welcome to the forum!

    Options for Bonds Hike

I think I saw at least 100 people coming up the Bondcliff trail as I was coming down on Saturday before noon. I didn't ask everyone, but many had large packs and, I can only assume a good number had planned on staying at the shelter. I'd say plan on being there before noon if you want a...

    What is Dirrettisima?

I think the literal definition is "most direct route". Here is a discussion of the most direct route to hike the nh 4ks: http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?2088-Shortest-Continuous-Footpath-of-the-New-Hampshire-4000-ers&highlight=diretissima Also this thread (with links to other...

Grand Canyon trip - looking for advice

Thanks for that TR! I've honestly never seen the Grand Canyon in winter. That looks like a great trip at that time of year. I think you've just convinced me to visit in winter. Heat and I don't get along well. :o

    Cog RR Hiker Parking Questions

In my experience, someone will be waiting at the lot. Or he will find you (especially if you park at the upper lot). ;)

a nice day on Mt. Washington

Moose whisperer masquerading as a Bear whisperer ITT! You have a great knack for this. I'm surprised you haven't found work as a nature photographer (or have you??). I mean honestly, most people can't get animal shots like this. Amazing stuff.

    Anybody for a Trail Worker's Story?...anyone?.....

Great essay! You really did well mixing pictures, history, facts and emotions to present the life of a trail maintainer. Huge aside from the awesome trail work story (might be a topic for another thread)... since you brought up the drive north... I've done a lot of driving from NH to the PA...

What are the most useful outdoor apps?

I like "Maplets". I think it was like 3 bucks or something for the iPad. It's basically like a collection of state park maps, national park maps, bike trail maps, walking maps, subway maps, etc. Like, all the stuff you wont find on acme mapper/mytopo. *note that "offline topo" can be achieved...

    Bondcliff!! I made it!! 7/14/12

I turned around (i.e. stopped and took a nap) on a hike Saturday because I was about to toss some cookies as well. The temperature (and air quality) was awful this weekend! Nice pics and cool route! :D
