Day 2 of Slabs and Ledges - Fisher-Hogback-Green-Foss-Dickey Mountains 11-22-11

For today, I was planning on taking a quick jaunt up Cone Mountain since I had never been there before. While talking over my plans with a friend, he suggested doing Fisher Mountain. That sounded good to me. As we talked, we both struck upon the idea of a loop from Fisher up to Hogback and...

Day 1 of Slabs and Ledges - Welch & Dickey 11-21-11

I hadn't hiked Welch & Dickey since 2001 so I thought a visit was way overdue. I'm glad I made the visit. I had climbed W&D probably a dozen times over the years and had forgotten how wonderful these two peaks are. A mini-cairn with a strong foundation with the Tripyramid's in the background...

New Hampshire Fish and Game Search and Rescue Funding Hearing

A friend who is involved in search and rescue asked me if I would post a note about a funding meeting for the NHF&G SAR expenses. This hearing will be an opportunity for the general public to provide their input on NHF&G SAR funding. I'm sure the committee would appreciate hearing the opinions...

Signal Mtn NH - Anyone visited the tower?

PB, Here are some pictures of the wind towers from a few different 3k's. They were peek-a-boo views. I believe these are the towers on Fish Brook Ridge. I counted 11 a couple of weeks ago. I would think you would get some views of the towers from Signal.

    Colorado 14er Fini

Nice job Stinky! One of the very few things we have in common....our first 14er was also Quandary. We did one more so we only have 52 left! A local gentleman, great guy and grid finisher from Jackson, NH, Al Aldrich also completed the 14er's this past August. His last peak was Capitol...

A Whole Summer's Worth of Trips

We bumped into you on your Cohos trail hike on 8/6. We were a group of five, with a big brown lab, that had just bushwhacked Muise. We were on our way back to Nash Stream when we ran into your your group getting water. We were very surprised to see anyone else out there. That was a quite...

Lincoln Woods Trail Destruction - Storm Irene

Today I took a walk down the Lincoln Woods trail (I still prefer the Wilderness trail myself) to see what kind of damage was done by the Pemi. Incredible stuff has happened. Warning signs galore today. This was one of them. That's a scary thought. Watch out below and don't get too close...

White Mountain National Forest Open as of Tuesday 8/30/2011

A handful of pictures from my venture out on the roads today. This is at the end of Little River Rd. which many people use as the winter route to North Twin. The Little River was running quite high I would say. The Ammo is still roaring as seen from Zealand Bridge. Recognize this bridge...

    1st Edition WMG

Ended up going for $735 plus $11 shipping for a total of $746. I remember back in the frenzied dot.com days, a 1st ed. went for $1,250. Remember, there were only 600 of them and I'll bet most of them ended up in landfills.

South section of Imp Trail - Black Bear

We were descending the Osgood trail last Sunday (7/31) and walked into a black bear on the trail. He must have known we were coming as there were three of us talking up a storm but he just turned around and glanced at us and kept on walking down the trail without a care in the world. After a...
