    Car camping in NH?

the birches in shelbourne/gorham is great[call first].very cheap and showers!A quiet trailhead might work,if you pull in late and do not mind a possible visit from the local cops[only to sleep a little and start hiking early].Once summer comes along I would not try it.If you go hike in maine...

    End of an Era

I realize now my statement was vague and misleading,my apologies.I use old school cramps that use straps. They fit so well for me, I have felt no need to upgrade.A few years ago the straps started to go in the back so I just use boot laces with the left over straps in the front.Very snug and...

Nice job John and Pepper!I had the fortune of meeting both of you on the north twin trail a few years back.thanks for the gentle suggestion that day to not go for the summit due to lateness in the day[I took your advice]...keep it up!Does pepper need a sponser for vftt?:) personal note;my cat...

    Tracks near Lonesome Lake Hut

Hi Kevin,Judy and Emma....The tracks at the bottom of your first two pics. have five front digits which seems to rule out Canids and cats.If I could guess several animals, I would go....marten,weasel,mink,fisher,otter and raccoon.[maybe a very small bear?] Totally dig these tracks threads...

2 guys, 3 days, 4 Border Patrol encounters and 5 peaks to finish the NEHH

Congrats to both of you for a job well done.Nice job keeping calm talking to the man.I would have mouthed off once they started grilling me about everything.I do not mind local cops or fish and game, but would have had a problem with border patrols line of questioning.I imagine they have a job to...

Old Speck via old speck trail. 3-11-13.

tr. cond;old speck trail had some postholes, but was mostly smooth to eyebrow junction. After junction trail was filling in from tree snow dropping like crazy. The closer to summit trail was trickier with some rambling at places.Lots of snow made upper steeps much more pleasant on the "would not...

trail conditions;see steve r's report for waumbek.Kilkenney ridge trail to south weeks was a straightforward snowshoe straight along the Waumbek ridge heading east.Dropping into the col between south weeks and waumbek's eastern ridge the k.r.t. was a free for all with bombadil's tracks being the...
