Lonnie Dupre has begun attempt to summit Denali solo this month

Perfectly said! I have been outside[in southern nh]a good amount the last week during the day enjoying my favorite month of the year and its been cold.Lonnie has to be a machine to do what he does.Even with a very warm fire and three sleeping bags[a -20/30/40]for resting, the lure of a warm house...

    Chased by a skunk!

Skunks are very friendly and into their own thing.I have had skunks around on and off my whole life and the only issue was when my cat years ago took one on,he lost and smelled for days!I have noticed the same behavior at different locations by skunks, they ramble around looking for food and do...

Avalanche in Huntington Ravine: 3 hurt (Updated Subject line)

Vfft seems very tame lately on the attack game. This board in the past seems to have been all over the place on the critique thang towards perceived negligent hikers or accident victims. This thread seems to be very supportive of our fellow hikers and climbers in general.I am not quite a climber...

6 Tufts Students Rescued From Dry River

Well put bro!Very much a pack mentality here....You see someone jump off the bridge,so you jump too...Article was very scary IMHO.Article went to great lengths to claim how they knew what to do when things got bad.Seems like they are all very good at demonstrating how to do things the wrong...

    Fire!!

While a fire touching the ground in a alpine zone might damage the ground vegetation,it is very normal in a forest zone in the long term scheme of regeneration.I would assume you mean the rogue camping spot where losers might use one spot over and over to do a illegal fire for whatever...

    Chased by a skunk!

Maybe the skunk was not "new age"?Skunks are very friendly. This behavior does not sound that strange, skunks used to garbage will approach people without concern.I would not assume they have rabies. Now a raccoon is another story, they can be evil. Stinkyfeet did you run through Jerome?:)

Emergency Shelter Room at Lake of the Clouds Hut

Could I ask if any of you had crampons in the trail report cited?Just trying to understand why there was so much slipping on the ammo?It seems like you like to hike in winter by all your reports, therefore are experienced.Just curious....

NH Proposes Fee If People Need To Be Rescued

Why I will not pay for "insurance".I would pay for ski insurance though in Vermont to get hot chocolate from that lemonade stand at killington run by sardog if I get "offtrail" by accident or not.{not familiar with any position by jeb on this matter]

    Fire!!

In my pack;mini bic/matches[in plastic bag]/hemp string/firestarter square. None of these mean anything if you do not know what to do with them!I do controlled burns all winter to help with late spring/early summer draught issues on a wooded plot I manage,so am very lucky to be able to practice...
