Does Sprint provide coverage in the Whites?

I'm not a heavy user so I've been with Tracfone for many years. I always made sure to get a Verizon based Tracfone as my brothers with AT&T never had the service in the mountains that I did with Verizon. Since I upgraded to a smart phone, I discovered that Tracfone Verizon smart phones will...

Let's see your alcohol stove kits!

So can I now. I love these stoves because they are solid, adjustable to a simmer, and white gas works at very low temps. That being said, in colder temps preheating is helpful. My kids still remember when I accidentally set a picnic table ablaze at a campground when I wasn't careful.

    King Ravine Trail

My favorite place in NH, thanks for the great pics. As a 17 year old this was my 1st hike into the whites an the 1st view into the floor of the ravine was amazing to say the least. I need to return there soon. Made it halfway up the Great Gully a few years back but my knee was telling me...

    Brendas Kitchen Twin Mountain

It's actually a law from 1985 that required all new tanks to be double walled. At that point a single wall tank was guaranteed for 30 yrs, so they said all tanks needed to be replaced by 2015. A couple of stations closed in my area last year because it wasn't feasible.

    Chemical Hand Warmers

I agree, the Yaktrax warmers are next to worthless, EMS should be ashamed that they still carry them.

MSR model of the year - No more Evo or Pros

Just to be clear, I was not dissing Yukon Charlie shoes. If you do a search in the forums you'll see that I've been plugging them as a great cheap option since I bought my 1st pair at "cringe alert" Walmart many years ago. Was just really surprised to see them in an EMS store, times are...

MSR model of the year - No more Evo or Pros

But, imagine my surprise when I went into the Peterborough EMS store this week and saw a rack full of Yukon Charlie snowshoes for under $90!

    Recent Rescue on Washington

Why didn't the hikers tell him to hike down the road and why couldn't he figure that out on his own? Gee, what would be the safest and easiest way down? Glad he made it out safely.

Is it possible to be a long-term hiker without resorting to lists?

The answer to your thread title question is YES. I do not keep track of my hikes. This past Sunday on my way through the mountains I decided to do a quick jaunt up Caps Ridge and decided to turn around at the highest cap. Was a great quick hike in perfect weather, and I had no need or ambition...

    Carter Notch Caves and Cliffs

Thanks for sharing. Have you been to the floor of King Ravine? If not, it is another great place with house size boulders, caves, and yes, ice in August.

    Garret Bonnema. "GRID" FINISHER #57

He also makes beautiful pottery! http://www.bonnemapotters.com/ I chatted with him at his shop earlier this summer and he said that he only had Cannon in August left to finish.

    Boots vs Trail Runners

The Merrell Moab Ventilators have been my favorite for years, and thankfully have not changed for quite a few years. Good support, great grip, and a nice roomy toe box. I recently found a pair of Merrell Reflex at EMS's tent sale and I really like these also, but now they are hard to find...

Blueberries are getting ripe in SW NH!!

2 weeks ago on Bald Mtn in nearby Woodstock the berries had no color at all. I agree, Rumford White Cap is a great place to pick!!

    Gap Mountain, north summit

Nice report! Gap is a smaller gem, and as I posted yesterday, the early SW NH blueberries are nice and sweet! There lots of similar lower elevations hills with nice views in the area. Hope your kids keep up the hiking interest!!

Blueberries are getting ripe in SW NH!!

Hiked up the Pumpelly trail to the Cascade Link and the blueberries are ripening up nicely. Still only 20% or so on the ridge, but they were tasty on a warm July day. Next weekend should be even better. I'll try to hit N. Pack and will report what I find, or not! :D

    Spring Wildflowers 2015

Saw many patches of these on S. Pack on Saturday, some with over 15 blooms, this was the only pic that was any good. Help please, have always been able to insert pics inline, why is this making me click to view? I've tried all sized files and they all do this. Thanks!

Another year with no bugs in S NH?

What a perfect day in May for a hike!! Stayed local with a hike up S. Pack via the Raymond trail. Applied deet at the trail head but could have avoided it. Just a few mosquitoes when I stopped to take pics of the abundant lady's slippers along the trail, nothing else. The last 3 years have been...

A recipe for a downright nasty weekend

4 hours of skiing glades at Crotched Mtn yesterday, and 5 hours spent today clearing my 2 driveways, the roof, and a neighbors drive today were a good enough workout for me. Did a short local showshoe walk before the latest 12" fell and was amazed at how light and fluffy the base is here is S...

Sure to Be Removed - Patriot's Postseason

Just in: 12-out of 13 balls were up to 2 lbs under the spec. Hiking reference: my hiking plans for the last year were also under inflated.
