Congratulations. Nice to meet you for all of 3 seconds as you went by. You beat us by about 12 1/2 hours. :D

    Vacation in Vermont

This reminds me of when I went off to college. People would ask me, "what state is Vermont in? Is it in New York?"

    Presidential Traverse, 9/5/2009

Hey Earl, thanks for inviting me along. This was my first Presi Traverse. I was unsure if I could do it or not, but I made it. It's too bad I lost the use of my left arm after coming down Mt Adams, but the landing could have been worse. Even with two good arms, I'm pretty sure I'm no threat...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

This is the point I was clumsily trying to make. Thanks.

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

Pure speculation here. Notice the difference in tone of the newer sign (on the right) and the older sign (on the left)? Also notice the state agency logos on the newer sign? Quite possible they were overstepping a little at first but now are within their rights. A question as well. 3000...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

On the bright side, no one is arguing about where Faraway Mt is any more.

Headache while hiking. If not dehydration, then what?

New Hampshire's singing has been known to cause many a headache on the trail.

    Need help from smugmug users...

I've had lots of trouble doing that from Smugmug. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You're probably better off just posting a link. That way dial-up users (if there still are any) won't hate you.

    Squaw in place names

Washington Redskins anyone? more on topic: My highschool's team names used to be the Chieftains and the Squaws. Sometime around 1980 or so, they realized that woman could be Chieftains too.

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

So there's one of the insults that Barbarossa was talking about. Unless you can cite someone "spouting fourth grade level science". And why so quick to dismiss 4th grade science? It seems as though a quick check of 4th grade math might have kept the financial "experts" out of trouble. So...

    Blue Ridge via Canty Trail

Lower part of the trail is a bit muddy and the bog bridges are a little slippery. Mosquitos are very thick the first mile or so. Just a little after the cascade there is water running in the trail for a few minutes. Other than that, trail was in fine shape.

Removal of suspension bridge in Pemi Wilderness

So riddle me this, Batman. They have the money to take down the bridge, but yet even with all that parking pass money, those fancy bathrooms at Lincoln Woods were both out-of-order on Memorial Day? How? I was for keeping the bridge, but now am convinced it must go. It injured my hiking...

Isolation bushwhack starts on the way down?

As the other guys said, the Davis-Isolation one is probably not worth it in summer. It's pretty obvious where it starts but doesn't look pretty. (was pretty nice in the winter though). The Isolation-Rocky Branch one looks like it would be tough to find on the way back without the benefit of a...

It can't hurt to have someone else report it I guess. I ran into some Waterville Valley guys (cops? fireman? couldn't tell) in golf cart and they said they'd report it to the forest service.
