Long Trail: Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap

I figured that this part of the LT would be a snowshoe backpack, but I thought I might as well ask this group just to be sure. I finally found my copy of the Long Trail Guide and Snoshoovt confirms the description in the guide. It's good to check the reference book, but I also like to get more...

Long Trail: Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap

I plan to take a couple of days between Christmas and New Year's to hike the Long Trail from Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap. The plan is to camp/bivy somewhere between Mount Abraham and Mount Ellen. I read a trip report by blacknblue that the Lincoln Gap road was closed about 1 1/4 miles...

    Central Gully, Huntington Ravine (12/6/2009)

Nice job Court and Gig. I didn't even take a look at the ravines when I went up on Friday. I'll give the conditions another week and they should be in good shape by then! Woody

Request for pictures of Tucks or Hunts this week (11/30-12/4)

Hopefully someone heads up into the ravines some time in the middle of the week and then posts a couple of shots of some of the more promising ice and snow lines. I'm really not counting much on having any good water ice routes, but maybe a little bit of ice on a snow climb. I'll at least take...

Why do you (or don't you) hile solo?

I usually prefer to hike with a small group, but if no one is available and I have the time on my schedule to get out for a day or two then I will just head out solo. I do pay close attention to the weather and make sure I leave my plans with my wife. I'll probably tell my brother as well...

Past the middle of October and above treeline - I'll bring the microspikes. They're pretty light for the piece of mind.

    Monadnock x 4

You climbed this mountain 4 times in a day and you didn't even hike the best trail! My favorite route up Monadnock involves taking the Spellman Trail and then coming down the White Cross for a nice loop. If I can't take the time to get to the White's then a hike on Monadnock is a good...

    The forgotton gear: life insurance

I dealt with this life insurance issue about a year ago after my previous term policy expired. After having the term policy for 20 years my premium sky-rocketed. It was time to get a new policy. When got my first policy 20 years ago I did not hike actively and I did not do technical climbing...

The end of a long journey

Mohamed, Keep getting out there and keep up the fight. Your trip reports and website were inspirations for me when I was first starting to hike almost 10 years ago. I continue to refer to your website as I am sure many other hikers do as well. I hope to run into you on the trails!

Eight nights in the High Peaks, 6/28/09 – 7/06/09…

Sounds like day 7 made carrying a little extra weight well worth it! I've got to get out to the ADKS! Nice report.

    Chamonix-Mont Blanc Massif: June 2009

I could have gone to Barnes and Nobel and bought a climbing book and not have read a better story! Great report. Sounds like a wonderful time. I know that Giggy is big on practicing cravasse rescue and this is why. Sounds like a great combination of a family vacation and a climbing trip...
