Bob, I may run into you on Saturday. I will be on that section of the Mahoosuc Trail on Saturday. I'm starting in Gorham on Friday for a weekend backpack. Woody

Polarizing filters, Sometimes you win, lose, or chose

Mark, Great info. I have recently been using a circular polarizing filter and you have explained some of the effects I have seen really well.

Lost back country skier sues SAR for taking too long

I couldn't have said it any better. We need to support our SAR organizations - not sue them! I also expect to take responsibility for my own actions. I personally can't shift blame to someone else when I screw up.

    Rainbow on Cedar Lakes

Nice Shot. My only critique is that I would like to have seen the top of the second rainbow as well. I still love the shot.

What's your opinion of "Hiker Dies/Gets Lost" threads ?

I buy an annual copy of "Accidents in North American Mountaineering" in the hope of learning something that may come in useful at some point in the future. I think posts about hiking and climbing accidents serve the same purpose. Occasionally the discussion does get to the point "bashing", but...

    Ammo-Jewell Loop

I had too much work to do around the house this past weekend so I didn't get to head up to Barnes to camp and hike. The weather report for Sunday looked a bit iffy anyway so I really didn't mind hanging around the house and getting the pool opened, but I still had the feeling that I had to get...

    Renting a Canon "L" Lens

Roadtripper, I like that picture of the falls. I also use an XSi camera. I have a EF 24-70 L lens that I recently purchased but I have not yet used it on a hike because it is heavy. I have only used it for a wedding and for ice hockey. I've been thrilled with the images I get from it. I...

Cocktails @ The Outlook. May 20 th.

We had a nice time eating, drinking and watching Big Pappy hit his first home run of the season. It was nice to meet Sandtooth. Now we just got to get him out hiking with us! DougPaul, Stevo, Darlene, Arm, DaveBear, and Isabella were also in attendance. We missed leaf and skimom! Thanks to...

OK, I will be there between 6:30 and 7 pm. To answer Sandtooth's question - We are probably the obnoxious group, or you could just stand in the middle of the room and yell "Alligator Eggs!":D You'll get a reply back for sure!

Let's do some climbing! I'm heading to the Gunks this weekend. Crow Hill was pretty wet this weekend, but there is a new climbing gym in Worcester that is pretty nice.

NHF&G News: Distressed Hikers Assisted to Safety

Craigslist? The thing I found the strangest about the story is finding hiking partners on "Craigslist"! I bet that's a great place to find experienced partners. They probably just aren't experienced at hiking!

I might even be able to get to this! It is close enough and I don't have to drive into Boston.

How wild should the mountains be?

The Mountains in New England are generally very accessable. I don't have a big problem removing bridges that are in designated wilderness areas, but I don't want to see trail maintenence eliminated, although I don't have a problem with not having a lot of blazes in the wilderness areas...
