    Pretty cool peak climbing documentary

Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey.**https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6861980/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1a This documentary is great. Fred Beckey accomplished so many first ascents. Such an inspirational pioneering climber. I think any mountain enthusiast would be enthralled by this film.

now the Grid is being speed hiked

Thanks for posting this. Interesting read. He documented his grid journey very well which was cool to check out. In terms of a calendar year, isn't the least possible amount of days one could complete the grid approximately 337? (365 days per year minus 31 days for December, + 3 days to do all...

In honor of the heat wave:

I climbed BOIL mountain - along with Onion and Cow Ridge up in Maine. These three peaks could make quite a stew. I want to extend thanks to 3000'+ elevations in Maine for actually not being terribly hot this weekend. It was probably 20 degrees cooler up there than where I live in Southern...

Mountains that have had their "summits" moved

I'm pretty sure Dorset mountain in Vermont had its summit moved. I believe it was always the west bump on Dorset (Not West Dorset Mountain, but the west bump within the main Dorset mountain) that was considered the summit until the summit was "moved" to the east bump of the main Dorset mountain.

John Oliver - Mount Everest discussion

John Oliver did this very funny and very accurate segment on Mount Everest climbing recently. Everest seems to have become an example showing the stupidity of humanity. There is literally tons of human excrement and trash up there. The roles/treatment of the sherpas and methods climbers use to...

May 14th snow in southern Vermont

Looks pretty awesome in the higher elevations of Southern Vermont this morning! Not bad for May 14th!! Anyone else get any accumulation?

    Longest snow cover?

Given the massive snow accumulation this winter and cool temperatures this Spring, it would seem like we are gearing up for a year of extraordinarily long snow cover at the higher elevations. I was up by Ethan Pond yesterday in NH, and there was still an average of 2 feet of snow cover or more...

The moose are back up North

I saw 10 moose in a single 30 mile stretch between Errol and Rangeley last Fall. One was a giant behemoth legendary oversize moose that took up the entire lane and looked like an industrial crane they used to build the Empire State Building.

Finished the Adirondack 100 Highest Saturday

Southwest Snowy - Snowy - East Snowy, Saturday April 13th 2019 With eternal wisdom and great planning, I started out for Southwest Snowy Mtn at the reasonable early-morning time of 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday. I parked on the side of Route 30, near Poplar Point exactly 3 miles south of...

    VT Questions

Vermont is hit-and-miss with the gates. Many roads that are also snowmobile trails are not gated, but then I think sometimes at the end of snowmobile season they close the gates until Memorial Day to preserve the roads and let them dry out. Other forest roads are never gated at all, just...

    Avalanche fatality in Tuckerman's Ravine

The last few ski turns just before the avalanche in the ski_the_whites photo are so sad and frightening. That sucks. RIP.

    Baldpate's broken out?

I was thinking of climbing the Baldpate's in Maine on Saturday. Anyone know if they are broken out or likely to be broken out? I am told it can be hard to follow/find the route otherwise. Is that the case? How are the conditions? Thanks a lot!

Lots of snow today up north

Mad River Glen in Vermont got 30 inches. I was up yesterday climbing in the Northfield range and there was indeed a lot of heavy wet "drying concrete" snow.

A different kind of hiking challenge - The World Before Your Feet documentary

This film is extremely fascinating. This guy has walked over 8000 miles of every single street in New York City. I watched it this weekend and found it really thought provoking. Definitely a different kind of hiking challenge. The World Before Your Feet: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7844450/

Looks like an out and back if your doing the Knife Edge this Year

Interesting information, thanks! Also, I like what DayTrip said about one of the park's biggest appeals being the untouched, wild feel to it, rather than an artificial massive construction trail building system. - I agree!
