    Going beyond the NH200 highest

NH 300 ish I don't have a precise list, but 2400' is a pretty close cut off elevation for the NH300.

    Lyme Disease resource

I asked my doctor about that and was told that I can get it again. There was a 'doctor protection' law passed in Massachusetts recently concerning lyme disease: http://www.mass.gov/bb/gaa/fy2011/os_11/h67.htm Stay on your doctor if you think you may have it. This disease is a quite recent...

    Lyme Disease resource

Symptoms From the article: I came down with a in early June and was among the 30-40%. I had the first 5 symptoms on the above list. Excepting the lymph nodes, they are all 'flu-like', aren't they? One thing that was not flu-like: I was dry in my respiratory system. Nary a sneeze or sniffle...

Sgt Taylor was brave. Chasing off a bewildered moose is very risky. I know they are usually timid, but this one had spent the last 10 hours out in public, so all bets are off.

"Leave the Snow Shoes in the Car"???

I finished my day in the woods yesterday by snowshoeing on an abandoned railroad. When the snowmobilers came whizzing by, I stepped aside and we exchanged waves. Lesson learned: Don't wear an iPod while hiking.

    Celebrity Moose Sighting

Union-Leader story. Kudos to Franconia Police Sgt. Mark Taylor for approaching a moose on open ground.

    Celebrity Moose Sighting

Driving past Profile Lake in Franconia Notch, this AM, I saw a moose out on the ice. I just want everyone to know how trendy I am; I saw this moose before he became a star. Driving back 8 hours later, it was still on the lake, but by now it was drawing a crowd. Did anyone happen to get...

    Ok, I'll do it... BIG SNOW STORM(s) 2/17, 2/19!

Hiking out of Wonalancet yesterday, it was all snow from around 2000' and up.

White Ford Explorer or Expedition, driving from Soldiers Field Rd to Belmont, just before 10 AM. I was in the blue Saturn VUE.

    Mt Kangamangas

I was one of those that did it from height of land on the Livermore Trail. The woods were open. On the ridge, it seemed the Forest Service might have cut a boundary swath. That pretty picture in my avatar was taken at the cannister on Mt Kancamagus.

Advice for a winter bag purchase

A good accessory to consider is a sleeping bag liner. Some are very compact and extend the temperature range of the bag. Mine both claim to add 15F. If using one empty your bladder. They can be difficult to wriggle in and out of during the night ;)

    Bears in Whites

I was in the Benton Range a couple weeks ago, hoping to see a moose. There was a bull trotting along the forest road, but nothing in the woods. Up on a ridge, I saw a bear when I got to close for its comfort. It burst out of hiding and ran away. The encounter was too short to waste time fumbling...

    Where is Kilkenny Bowl?

Offhand, I would guess it is the area drained by Mill Brook, east of the Pilot Range. The York Pond area is another possibility. If the guesses are wrong, both areas are well populated :-)

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

That's why I posted the link to the article. Back to my original bone of contention: Dr D posted that the skeptics, funded by oil money, are out spending the non-skeptics by a wide margin. He did nothing to back his assertion. I called hijinx. $79 billion dollars, a concrete number. If you...
