    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

So our atmosphere is now 0.0388% CO2, and in ~25 years it will be 0.045% CO2, bringing about flooding of apocalyptic proportions? The odds that I will be alive in 2034 AD are pretty good. I suspect there could be some significant upheaval in the preceding years, yes?

Mountain Lion in Pawtuckaway - Let the debate begin

I poked around on Wikipedia and noticed some details that stood out Is that a typo on the weight? 135 is cougar range, 35 is more bobcat size.

    Lovewell Mountain

It was a very pleasant walk. Lovewell felt rather isolated and had some open views at the top. The trail on the north side descended through the middle of some fern glades, very green from the recent rain. There was also a clearcut where I startled a large hawk. He flew away too fast to be...

South Carolina Governor missing, turns out he's hiking the AT

This issue requires a full investigation. The public needs to know if an elected official hiked in jeans, kept his dog on a leash, used his cell phone, camped within 200 feet of the trail, and packed out his trash. "At long last, have you no LNT ethics, Sir?!?"

Has anyone driven the Bog Dam Road recently?

Do you know if they ever close roads mid-season? It has rained a bit recently

"I hit a moose and it wasn't even hurt!"

A couple years back, I had a fender bender with a moose and we both got off lucky. Going over Kancamagus pass early one morning, I encountered a cow that just had to cross. I tried the left lane to avoid her, but she chose that for her escape route. She took off my passenger side mirror and I...

Directive Limits Activity in Roadless Areas of National Forests

Too much uncertainty. I think I need to stop by the Hubbard Brook Forest HQ and get edjumicated ;-)

Directive Limits Activity in Roadless Areas of National Forests

Whenever I pass through an old logging area, I wonder how long ago it took place and how recent the new growth is. I should make a point of studying a logging area as it re-grows. This one seems as good an opportunity as any other.

The trail got a surprising amount of snowshoe traffic, at the bottom, anyway. The further I got, the fewer the tracks.

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

Informed decisions are best. Don't doctors encourage patients to seek a second opinion? Just don't do that with an auto mechanic; they never make mistakes ;) You can trust me. I'm an expert.

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

Wow, Doug, this is more than a little bit insulting. Suggesting that those who disagree with your conclusion are likely swayed by advertising is quite condescending. * Fear -- Global warming could kill us all. * Uncertainty * Doubt Whoops, wrong side of the argument. I find as I get older...

    Gas prices up north

Wholesale prices have been rising for quite a while. It took retailers some time to cross the line going back above $2/gal. AFAIK, gasoline sold in New England is imported as gasoline, so stockpiles in Oklahoma might not directly affect our prices locally.

    Sandwich Notch Rd?

Last Friday (April 10), there was a big mound of dirt at the southern end. A sign mentioned mud.

    South Moat

I did North Moat on Saturday, ascending the Moat Tr, descending Red Ridge Tr. There was plenty of snow in sheltered spots, up to 4' deep, judging by the postholes. I got very familiar with the bindings on my snowshoes that day, because the sunny spots were bare.

    Do Moose Shed?

They definitely shed. I have seen quite a few beds like that recently, some even hairier. This one appears to have pooped after getting up. Some photos from 3/21

I bought a pair of size 11 Sorrels for my size 10 1/2 feet. After adding green Superfeet, they fit fine.
