    4 Season List (Gridiot) Question

I'm foolishly working on my 46x4 however, 2 weekends from now I'm running into a bit of a conundrum as the equinox is on Saturday (specifically it is at ~10:40 AM). I know the W48 rules specifically state that a hike must begin no earlier than the precise winter solstice and end no later than...

    8/26/12 Presi Traverse

Due to some amazing generosity from a friend, Nicole and I were able to attempt a presi traverse. We left the parking lot at 5:15. The climb up to Madison Hut was slow and steady, we kept a slow and steady pace to conserve our energy for the rest of the traverse. At the hut we knew we already...

Rainier, Gannett, Granite - July 2012

Thanks for the trip report! Our guides shared your sentiments about RMI vs IMG and they said IMG is the only way to go on Rainier. I wasn't aware guided trips were available for the other peaks, so that might somewhat move those peaks from my "never ever" column to my "worth considering" column

All along I've been climbing mountains like a SUCKER

Who knew you could just float to the top: http://www.xcmag.com/2012/08/50-pilots-topland-mont-blanc-as-chamonix-sees-record-day/ 50+ paragliders summit-landed on Mont Blanc on 8/19. I wonder how this fits in with the hiking rules :D

    Single Car Pressie Traverse Logistics

I'll look into that, their rates seem reasonable. I'm flexible depending on the weather. I'll be arriving in Keene NH (southern NH) on Friday night and staying through labor day weekend. We do have some friends we could stay with in Berlin to make the day 1 drive more reasonable. That's a...

    Single Car Pressie Traverse Logistics

I'm considering trying a pressie traverse next week, but we'll only have 1 car in the area. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get back to Appalachia from the highland center at the end of a long day? I'm planning on starting around 5 AM, we did a GRT in the Adirondacks in 14:30, so I...

That sounds about right (from a person with absolutely no avalanche awareness training).

Highpointing Advice Needed (OR, NV, AZ)

Thanks! After reading this trip report the day we started our mountaineering class: http://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=251711 I figured our chances of summiting were nil. I would have made the same exact choice had we not been guided, but the guides (multiple parties) thought...

Highpointing Advice Needed (OR, NV, AZ)

I just wanted to reply to the thread and let everyone know how it went: Hood (7/10,11,12/12) We stayed in government camp (4k') and did the mountaineering class for 2 days prior near the lodge (7k') on the summit day our guide did a great job of keeping a slow and steady pace, so we never...

    Route 28

Both NY 28 and NY 30 are on my "Thru-Drive" list. Some of these roads are really scenic and interesting, it would be fun to drive them on a nice day, end-to-end with no particular destination in mind (NY 22 looks like it would be interesting as well). It is amazing the amount of information...

Highpointing Advice Needed (OR, NV, AZ)

Thanks for the extra advice. We're staying in government camp (4k') for the nights before our hood climb and we're probably going to stay at queens mine (9k') the night before our ascent of Boundary. Hood is the real goal, the rest are a bonus, so either of us don't cope well with the altitude...

    the garden

Thursday or Friday shouldn't be a problem. I have only been skunked once on a non-saturday, and that was pretty late (10pm) on a Friday night on a perfect fall foliage weekend.

    Helping me 'til it hurts

Come hike on some of the recently marked trails in the Adirondacks. The newer trail markers are a plastic disc with the lettering written in the reflective paint. I agree that they are definitely easier to pick out using a headlamp.

What gear do you dream of getting, or getting rid of....

I'll take it off your hands if you'd like :p This is probably the best plan. Overall, even if you're not going out lead climbing, it'll still be good to have all the pro for setting top-ropes (a much more kid friendly activity).
